Car crash caught on tape by news cameraman!

I have to agree w/ above, I don't think this accident would have happened if the drivers weren't distracted by news reporter. That said, it's not the news crews fault, the driver pulling out should have looked more closely. Man that sucks.



 
Talk about irony....

The news reporter was just talking about..."car going this highway going 55 don't have to stop...car going this way have to STOP" and then BAMMM !!!"

Tragic accident, but it only goes to show that it takes just an instant of inattention to get into a major accident. You really have to pay attention to what you are doing.

There should be a public outcry to have a 4 way signal put there. That sign on the side of the road, and the fact that a vehicle crossing the opposite way are 2 huge blind spots.

The only blind spot I saw was was the car paying too much attention to the reporter and the van that just crossed the road so the car thought it can also cross the road.
 
Looks like the white van prevented the car driver from seeing the truck. The van cut in front of the truck, btw.

I think 55mph is too fast for an uncontrolled intersection. If speed limit is 55, most people are likely doing 65. At 65mph, most people can't judge distances and times accurately.

Exactly, for all of you city folks there are tens of thousands of intersections like that in rural america. Are you proposing putting 4 way stops at all of them? c'mon people, think.

I live in the burbs and we don't have any uncontrolled intersections with speed limits of 55mph.

That reporter and cameraman is pretty lucky that car didn't get knocked into where they were standing.....
 
I don't see anything dangerous about that intersection. It looks like you have a clear line of sight for a mile in each direction. I'm just glad that the driver of the truck wasn't hurt.

on 2 lane 55mph roads here in flatlands of illinois i'm lucky if i can get up to 55mph on the straights
 
The news story they were doing was about how dangerous the intersection is.
Whatever the reason, there is obviously something about the intersection that makes accidents more common.
