Car computer question

I was thinking about building a carputer to play mp3s. It would be controlled by my Cassiopeia PPC through the serial port. The thing is, I have an Athlon 1ghz, Abit KT133 system that I can use. Would the car battery/alternator be able to handle that power demand? If not, would it help much if I underclocked the CPU to 500mhz or something?
