Car camping in California?

Anyone got recs for good places to go car camping in CA?

The only 2 I got offhand are Death Valley + Joshua Tree.

Anything else? Planning a few car camping trips this summer

Yosemite, Sequoia/Kings Canyon, Santa Cruz, Redwoods National Park...there's a long list of places that are great for car camping.

roll car up to site, take shit out, set shit up, done.

In other words, not backcountry camping.

Joshua Tree's my pick, but if you go in June like I did, be prepared to wake up at about 5am because it's 100 degrees inside your tent at that point.

Pinnacles - Pinecrest Lake - Prairie Creek -

All along the coast are tons of places to car-camp. I would suggest you get your reservations in early as lots of places are already booked solid for the holiday weekends.

I heard Big Sur is a great location for car camping with great ocean view; also Lake Tahoe during the summertime.

Joshua Tree seems very promising - might be going 3rd week of March to check the spring blooms.

thanks, I'm looking to book for non-peak times.

So "Camping" camping...

no. the difference is between backcountry--which is "camping"

car camping is piling every damn thing in your car and driving off. "camping" wouldn't involve coolers--weight is important.

OP--didn't you post this exact same thread not too long ago?

😀

oh, and there are a few nice spots up here at Pt Reyes, which is a fantastic place. Not sure if it's worth the drive for you, though--especially when you could just do Yosemite.

My sister found a spot in Dana Point that's walking distance to the beach that we went to a few years ago. I'll have to ask her the name of the place and get back to you.

Doheny State Beach. Also reminds me of Bolsa Chica Beach.

I don't know, did I?

I looked at my post count the other day - LOL - hard to remember everything I've posted 😀

There are some nice sites up around Palomar Observatory. Joshua Tree is great use to camp there all the time. Also around Kern river there are lots of places.
