Car buying Advice Needed~

Alright.. to make my point short~
I'm interested in purchasing a Honda Prelude Type SH 98 and up~

I know 97 was when the 1st redesign came in.. but since it was the 1st year in the change I wanna get one a year newer than that~

Okay here it goes..

I found two Honda Prelude Type SH both in Pearl White~

a 98 with about 130k miles.. for about $9900~

and 00 with 24k miles with warranty in effect for about 16500~

now with the discontinuation of the Honda Preludes~.. do you think it's wiser to get it .. when it's fully discontinued ??
Would the price of the car go down ?
I know that this car isn't really in high demand~ as a lot of people find it ugly~ ..
But with a 200hp Engine ( 00 model ) ( 195 hp on the 98 model )
It's just so tempting~ plus it gets good gas mileage as well~

I dont have too much money to spend .. as I'm a college student~.. and I wanna keep it as low as possible.. but get a car that I wouldn't have to worry about falling apart~..

Also .. should I buy extended warranty ?? Do you think it'll be worth it ??
It covers I believe 5 years 60,000 miles for about 1300 on the 2000 and about 1500 on the 98~

<< Careful buying a Prelude. Insurance will be higher than you expect.

That said, hit up kbb.com and CarBuyingTips.com and AutoTrader.com and Cars.com to get a better idea of what you should be paying for either of those Preludes. Heck, you might even find a cheaper price. 🙂

Heh insurance~ yea~ that's gonna get me~...since I do live in the highest insurance rate in the US~ ..
but I don't think it'll be too bad for now~ I dont have any points or never received any tickets ~ ..
plus~ I will be putting this car under my mother's name~

Well, Preludes are excellent cars. I don't think anyone is going to argue with that.

However, given your two choices, a 98 with 130k miles is a lotta miles!!!. While that may not always be a bad thing (as they are probably easy highway miles)...you need to keep that in mind regarding future repairs.

As for the second car....its approaching new car territory at 16 grand. Somehow its hard to justifiy a used car when you can get a fresh, virginal one (albeit a different model) for about the same price. Since you seem set on preludes, the second one would seem to be a better buy. But I would continue to look around, and to get the car checked out before buying.

130K seems high... eventhough it is a Honda... but still... choose wisely... Alternator here, transmission there, etc.... costs will easily make up the difference.

Should I just get the older model.. and do an Engine Swap ?

I found a JDM H22a ( Type S ) engine .. 2.2L 220 hp stock~ instead of the Type SH 200 Hp 2.2L

Engine was about $4000~~

Buy an older model and swapping doesn't sound so bad either~>.

hey isekii, i'm getting a prelude too

i live in so cali, and 16k for a 00 lude with 24k miles is a freakin bargain

right now, 97-98ludes with 50k miles i can't even find for 15k! well i can, but only a select few ^_^

and just FYI, although i'm pretty sure you know, the labor on an engine swap is another grand, soooooo 9x lude @6k + 5k labor = 11k, so you can decide if it's worth it or not ^_^

I really wanna get a Japanese Type S since the body looks different~ and it's engine is better~..

Maybe I should get a 97 lude and just do the swap ?

97's are really cheap~.. but all the work involved is just too time consuming and costly..~

well I can't get the Japanese Type S since they dont have it here~>.

but you can get JDM parts for it~.. and the engines you can usually get that are imported.. although quite expensive..

Labor isn't much of a problem.. since a family friend of ours is an auto mechanic~
