Car batteries

Looks like the terminals are positioned differently, but the size is basically the same with the Odyssey battery being about 1 inch taller.

I have a (used) battery from a 2007 Odyssey.
Can I put it into a 2004 Grand Caravan?

Thanks in advance!

Two considerations:

Will it fit in the battery tray in the new vehicle?

Does it have enough cranking amps?

I doubt #2 will be an issue.

Also make sure the terminals are in the same place. Batteries can have the negative and positive terminals swapped.

Almost certainly yes. Is it the same style?

The only compatibility issues with car batteries are (1)Size-you generally can't fit an SUV battery in the battery compartment of a compact (2)Cold cranking amps--if it's too low, you'll have trouble starting a bigger engine. No such thing as "too high" though, (3)Post layout (side vs. top terminals).

But as a rule of thumb, similar vehicles can interchange batteries with no problems.

They are swapped.

So just put it in "backwards", right? 🙂

Thanks for the super-quick responses everyone.

I just got a new batter for the Odyssey, and the Caravan (which hardly gets driven) could use a new one itself -- but I'm pretty confident the Odyssey pull is in more than decent enough shape for what use the Caravan gets. It's WAY newer too than the one that's in there now.

Though as I type that now, it seems I'm thinking about this backwards... if it's used LESS then the weaker battery will be worse for the Caravan as it sits longer periods of time between being driven.... dang it!

Just stick it on a $20 battery tender.

truer words would be harder to find! I have a Battery tender junior that I use with my "Toy". I mounted the quick connect just behind the grill. Drive in and plug in and forget about it for months at a time.
