Car audio?

If you had to upgrade either the stock head unit or the stock speakers, which would you choose? Reason for upgrading is poor sound quality. (Distortion)

Car is GM, so it's probably AC Delco currently installed. I don't want to spend more than $150.

Here's a completely gratuitous pic of a hot babe.

edit: Car is 1998 Olds.

I thought of that, but would an amp work with OEM head unit?

If the rear's are 6x9's I'd say rear.
So are you saying 6x9 speakers are bad and should be replaced with 5.25s?

depends on how sh!tty your front and rear speakers are.. if we could get an idea of what you are dealing with here it might be easier to decide.. head units do have more power output than factory ones but if your speakers can't handle the extra rms output wattage there's no reason to even upgrade the headunit before the speakers.

They made an adapter for mine, I didn't use it because I got my Pioneer 8400 first. 😛 So even though I'm telling you to do what I didn't, you should really get an HU last so you can throw it in there with all the messy wires already ran and speakers already broken in.

No, I'm saying if you have 6x9 cutouts, they will have the most effect on your overall SQ for your budget.

WTF? 😛

I've put two systems together in both of my trucks. Dont dont one thing at a time, do it all at once.

Get the headunit first. If you can find one in your price range get an Alpine. It's amazing the difference it made in my car.

^--- baist because you have one and enjoy. Get into car audio a little more, listen to some setups and be open minded, you'll change your mind. I once thought Clarion and Alpine were the best... soooo mistaken.

Word to the wise, don't get cheap on yourself.

Good systems cost money, spend little and you'll get exatly that.

Try to amp the 4 speakers frist if the current head unit will support it. If not, get a new head unit.

exactly. 😛

This guy is looking to upgrade to better sound quality. I don't think he wants a major sound system.

While i'm sure Eclipse is good i'm just merely recommending a brand that has been proven good.

One thing we can problebly agree is Sony isn't that great for HU's...
