What do you guys suggest? I'm looking at the Pioneer DEH-7200 for my head unit (~$260) Pioneer TS-A6895 6x8 speakers for my fronts. But I'm not really sure what to do with my rear door speakers and I also can't decide on what sort of subwoofer to use. I'm looking to spend ~$600 total for right now. Any ideas?

I recommend the Pioneer units over any other. I think they offer a lot style over all other brands, and I frequently glance over the Crutchfield magazine when I get a new one. I own a Pioneer DEH-6100 (i know it's a 6000 series), and it rocks. The Pioneer speakers sound pretty good, especially the ones with the 'horn-driven' sound. Those that have seen those know what I'm talking about.

I would recommend Rockford-Fosgate subs.

I love my MTX 6X9's for my power speakers, and i know nothing about subs... As far as head units, I read that Clarion is the best you can buy, which is why I went with them and I have loved it ever since i got mine installed

Here's the system I currently have sitting in my room with the exception of the deck.

Head Unit: Panasonic color changing one. I forget the model number but it's a good deck, the sound is clean and it reads every cd-r I throw at it. The only downside is 2 weeks after I got it the LCD fvcked up and I had to RMA it. Damn RMA took 3 months to finish cus they were back ordered on the part. But all in all it's a good deck. (paid 200 something for it)

Mids: Stock. My stocks sound good.

Subs: 2 10" Polk Audio EX10's. I have yet to install em. I'm still trying to figure out when I have the time to build the box to put them in. (150.00)

Amp: Soon to be a Kenwood 300x2 amp. I know the RMS is only 150 watts. But that's good enough to put a lil low end into my system. Plus for under 200 bucks you can't really grumble. It's not the cleanest power source, but it's better than nothing. :) (179.00)

I would go with a Clarion deck if you can find one you like. That's what I'm upgrading to. As for the subs and such, copy me and go Polk. They sound good. If you can afford the MOMO series of the subs then you're better off. But they're like 300 a sub or something like that. As for amps, anything that can cleanly power your subs, even the lowest amount of high quality power is better IMHO than something pushing 500 crappy watts.

I would personally suggest the Kenwood Excelon line of head units. If you're into Sound Quality and durability over anything else (e.g. fancy displays) then you'll never go wrong with the Excelon. There is a reason why audiophiles and those competing (and winning) in IASCA use this over other brands at the same price.

Check out the Sounddomain.com forums, they'll be more than happy to tell you the Excelon is a better unit than the Pioneers any day.

I also have a simple review of the features on this on Carreview.com. For reviews of the High End x915 click here. For reviews of the x815 (what i have) click here (check out the review by mike from houston, third down.. that's me :) )

I have to agree with myztkal, the Momo's are a good buy if you can afford it. Otherwise you won't go wrong with the Infinity Perfects 10". If you go to crutchfield right now i think they're offering a free enclosure with this baby.

Go with the pioneer DEH-7200, got mine for 275 and don't regret a penny of it. The organic screen kicks arse(dophins that swim and a greek-like scenario).

You'll have to save a little more if you want some bass (you'll need a nice amp). But's i'd go with the head unit and speakers. Subs can come later. :D

I'd go with a Sony CDX-C90 Head Unit...its about $1000 but well worth it :) For a sub, Kicker Solo Baric L7 12"...the big square one.

Oops, you said around $600 total, nm :p

i agree with tweekah, subs can come later.. also you might want to audition some Cerwin Vega stealths (6x9's for rears and 6.5 components for fronts)... they may not be highly efficient but this set-up even at low volume makes you think you have a small sub in your trunk.

I would wait for the subs, for the front door speakers I like the pioneer 4 way ones, and also sony xplodes. As far as subs go i would save up the money and get some JL's

Where did u read this??? I know quite a few people that compete...and very few use Kenwood.

Anyways...i have the clarion 9675z and i love it. I've always used clarion. Pioneer also makes nice decks.

Im not sure bout the subs...but the component Momo's are the same as polks higher end components..ur jus payin more money for the momo name and design. For subs check out IDQ.

Well most of those i see around here use the Excelons... that is compared to other systems at the same price range for the HU's.. guess i should've been more clear on that one :)

Heres another vote to wait on the sub. A good sub & amp will set you back at least $400. Have you heard JL audio subs?

I recommend you ask this question at a car audio forum like this one or at this one.I used to hang out at elite, and a few others I can't remember right now (and I need to find my backup of bookmarks, since the HD in my main machine failed).

To put it mildly. I learned a LOT about car stereo there. What you'll find is that by buying a brand like Rockford. You are paying a lot for advertising, instead of a great product. You'll also find out where to buy stuff online cheaply (be aware that most companies will not honor warranties if you buy from an unauthorized online vendor, and most of em are not authorized), and they have for/sale trade just like this forum too.

One last thing. Stay away from a vendor called Carmedia1. They are not a safe company to deal with.

Good luck. :)
