so right now i have the option of putting either 1 JL 12w6v2 or 2 JL 12w3v2's into my truck. does anyone know which would be louder or have better sound quality? its going to be sealed. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

NEW QUESTION:
i know it will probably sound like crap, but has anyone heard of anyone with a W6 AND W3 hooked up at the same time?

2 12's will obviously be louder. JL are good subs, you won't have sound quality issues with the lesser W3.

The two subs will be louder, generally. I would also have said they would have more punch.

The single W6 will be more accurate, though, and maybe be a faster sounding sub.

So much comes down to boxes though.. I know you said 'sealed' which is fine, but size plays a major part.

go for the 2 12's, one W6 is awesome, but two W3's will kick more ass

The 2 w3's will be better than the single w6 under pretty much all conditions, mainly due to the lack of dynamic compression (IE: they wont get worked as hard when you're cranking).

Unless you are getting a hell of a deal I wouldn't go with the JL's. Way overpriced IMO.

actually i am getting a hell of a deal. i already have the 12w6v2 in my car and a friend of mine is selling his 12w3v2 (3) for ultra cheap. so im installing a system in my girlfriends car and im deciding whether to put the 2 W3s in her car or put my W6 in her car and keep the W3's for myself.

i know it will probably sound like crap, but has anyone heard of anyone with a W6 AND W3 hooked up at the same time? i dont have the amp setups to power 3 subs in one car so ill have an extra W3 and was wondering what it would sound like if i added it to the lone W6.

The 12w6v2's efficiency is 85.9 dB

The W3s win. especially if you have the ampage to drive them both.

for the W6 i have a JL 500/1 and for the 2 W3's i currently have a JL 1400d but will most likely be buying a audiobahn A8002T (because the 1400d might be a tad too weak).

Don't let the higher numbers next to the W throw you off with JL subs. I remember when I was sound shopping I was going to get a W3v2 or a Kicker Solo-batic, I got the Kicker and love it but have heard the W3v2 and its amazing ported or sealed. The W6 is an older model believe it or not, it pretty much goes W0 W6 W3 W7.. and the W7 is WOWZER

i think you are comparing the wrong models. its a 12w6v2 and 12w3v2... so its the v2 versions of both. and yeah the w7's are freakin amazing... but so its their pricetag, and the 1000w RMS amp you have to get to power them. would have loved to get a 13w7 but my budget didnt permit it.

If you really want teh bass subs are inefficient. Bolt one of these under each seat and give each one 100W RMS. More bass you can feel than a 2000w 89db 1w/1m 18" sub. Then all you need is a nice 10" sub with good SQ. Unbeatable.

I have one of this model under each seat in my car, and it can make my ass go numb in no time flat.

hmm never even thought about that. thanks for the suggestion. i like loud music but i really dont like knowing everyone can hear me and that tons of bass coming out of my car is almost like a "please steal me" sign. i own a truck and both my seats have amps underneith so i dont know if it will fit.

Thats the beauty of transducers, the bass travel is limited by how much audible sound whatever its attached to can radiate. No noise ordinance tickets for me! A lot more of the bass is felt and a lot less gets outside your car, which is why you still need at least one regular sub, for the audible bass.

For SQ, nothing touches the Titanic IMHO. Daytons money goes into R&D, not advertising and marketing. Very good company.
