...just got a MTX 6152 amp today and now I need a sub for it. :)

I need something that'll sound good in a sealed box that can handle at least 400-watts. I was looking at a Audiobahn, but I don't want to have to buy a new amp to power the damn thing. So what's your favorites? :)

I personally prefer to use several smaller (6 or 8 in.) drivers to replace a larger driver like a 12in. You get much tighter bass without all the mud.

Hmmm, I get what you're saying, but I'd rather have one 12" than a couple 8's or something. :)

A 6" will NEVER go down to the same freq. as a 12"!!!!

personaly I always like the sound quality of JL Audio. 3 w6's 8" wired into a serious parrallel will give you a 4 ohm load and can handle 900 watts.

JL Audio

My friend had this setup, dam did I ever hear that carry a few hundred feet.

Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 <<<----

But then again it all depends on what range or kind of sound you're looking to get from the sub and most of the best subs don't require any more than 300 watts to do their damage if you're looking for quality bass not break your windows bass.. you can go sell out with someone elses advice I won't give you any for that..

I dunno. I don't like Infinity that much. I'd rather buy my Audiobahn and a bigger amp. :)

Infinity is know for good sound. Need power for sealed boxes. Depends on what music you like. Ported is good for heavy metal, sealed for stuff like jazz then bandpass for rap stuff. You should also look at crutchfield and see if you like that square Kicker subwoofer. Kicker was all the rage in 1994-5, but they were overshadowed by others.

Bottom line, give any sub enough power, and it can blow your ears out.

It handles 300w per coil! Oh yeah, and you can get awesome grilles for them.

Hmm.. I remember one of my friends paid $320 for a Kicker Solobaric L7 12"
Damn thing was amazing the amount of bass it put out.. needs about 550 to 600W's to be any good though and the MTX 6152 only puts out 325W at 4 ohms max right!?

Yup it pushes around 352-watts max at 4-ohms. That's why I'm looking for something that doesn't need as much wattage that'll still pound.

I really don't want a JL, but if it comes down to it, I might end up with it...

Get a smaller one? According to the Crutchfield catalog, they have the boxes, just can't find them.

hey, do you mean that if it needs 600w, you have 300x2? If you have 325x2, then that means 650 for that one sub, should be enough? these are dual voice coil, 4 ohm

Also, remember that as you add more subs and/or as their size gets larger, you need LESS power to produce the same volume.
They will handle more power, but likely don't need it.

Ever thought about Soundstream subs? Well, it's been awhile since I last played with car-audio, but back then they were good, and I guess they still are.

The Titanic 1200 is always a nice sub :)
Very deep, tight bass :)
Doesn't need much power to drive it either (it'd be happy with only 100watts :))

Peerless XLS 12incher another a sweet woofer. All it need is a 0.75cf box.......tiny :D
Really a nice woofer, made for sound quality.

Finally, someone that knows what they're talking about!

BTW - I just got my JVC MP3 headunit and some CDT Audio rear speakers that i never heard of and he told me that they ROCK. I installed them and i was impressed...even the installer was impressed he asked where CDT audio was so he can order them for his store. I'm running dual 12' Audiobahn Aluminum Subs in a ported box that is shooting straight into my car. I will pics of this when i get my front components running.
