I have an older Pioneer headunit Text That I originally had installed in an old Ford. Well, I just installed it in my new(er) cara 2000 protege. The install went fine and all, but I have one question. When turned up about midway and a hard bass is hit, the face plate of the radio dims. This happens on both cars. I originally let it go due to the age of the older car, I had figured it was just old wiring. But it also happens on my new car! Now, the interirior and headlights do not dim, just the face plate. Does anybody have any what this is and how I can fix it? Is it the headunit? Will it burn out my alternator prematuraly if I leave it in? I just don't understand I am only driving the original speakers - I don't think it could be drawing that much power.

It's the deck. Sorry to say, there's nothing you can do about it. I don't think it was designed properly, but it's nothing to worry about if the lights in the car don't dim.

its a problem with the head unit.

***my theory (may not be based in fact or solid electonic theory***
my guess would be that its a problem with one of the capacitors (maybe one doesnt work). something along the lines of the deck not being able to store enough energy for when the music requires a big surge. when the speakers draw energy for a big bass hit, the deck has to draw power from other areas because the capacitors havent stored enough energy. thuse the dimming of the face plate.
***end of my theory***

you could probably get it serviced and fixed if you want to pay for it, but it shouldnt hurt the car or alternator
