Problem: Sound is too "tinny" or too much treble.

The EQ Setting

I made an EQ setting on Alpine's I-Personlize. From the reading I did I need to increase the lower freqences in order to increase the bass and decrease the treble. I am going to try it in my car now and see how it is. I was wondering if I am even on the right track for this EQ stuff.

Deck: Alpine 9833
Front: Alpine 6.5 Type R
Back: Alpine 6x9 Type S

the rule with eq setting is you set everything to the lowest setting and raise each one until it sounds good TO YOU.

There is no right or wrong. What matters is what sounds good to you.

That is what I have heard from many people. The problem is that I don't know how to make it sound the way I want. Am I on the right track to get more bass? I just tried it in my car and I heard little to no difference. Thanks for your help throughout rudeguy :p

Thanks for the input! I had no idea that they wouldn't do that. I just thought the lowest hz represented bass and the higher ones represented treble

Which EQ "Ball" do I raise or lower?

EDIT: The curves can get wider as well, I read about it on a website recommended to me on ecoustics, but still have no idea what it does.

EDIT: #2 - My deck doesn't have the traditional Bass and Treble agustments. It only has this stupid EQ thing.

whats your car stereo setup? if you have no sub, just turn up the treble, and mid freq. a lil, there is nothing there that can support the low freq. and your just distorting the crap outta your stock speakers.

So increaseing the middle one will increase the bass?

yea, on those thats what i would increase.

leave the low ball low, and raise the others about +3

You need an RTA to set an EQ.
I really can't imagine doing it without one, unless you have the ear an experience to listen to the pink noise and hear where the problems are.

glen, hes tuning it to what he wants to listen to, not for a completely flat response.

he wants bass.

You really should be going for a flat response.

Give it some time to get used to it, you're probably used to the normal mass market crap that puts WAY too much emphasis on bass. Sadly that's what the uninformed masses like.

yup. ive recently tried to get the speakers in my Jimmy to increase their tweeter responce as they are completely and utterly dull, soooo numb.

but it sucks, its the best you can do with stock paper cone 6.5's

Meh, I like it. K-OS has never sounded so good. I went with what nourdmrolNMT1 said, but I turned the lower frequences up 1 and increased the width as wide as it would go.

Most of my albums sound fine with the flat EQ. The rock ones sound perfect. It just seemed like some had too harsh of a drum beat and needed some higher bass to smooth those out.

Yes Viper, I am part of the uninformed masses. I just wanted a system that would sound better than the paper speakers and cassette only deck that was in there before :p . I am by no means an Audiophile or whatever it is.

I really can't thank you enough. I am used to tuneing in my dad's camry where Bass is -5 - +5 and Treble is -5 - +5 . Just press a button, turn a dial and I'm rocking. I was so confused with this deck, but thanks to ATOT I love it!

Hell no :p . As long as I hear all 4 speakers and get a surround sound type feel, that's good enough for me.

And often there are others riding with me and the sound might be off for them. All in all I just want something that works and don't have to tinker with it all the time.
