Are all of Car & Driver reviews written so poorly?

In 1844, Alexandre Dumas wrote Les Trois Mousquetaires. The best-known of the protagonists was D'Artagnan. Then there was, uh, Porthos. And finally came Curly. Maybe it was Annette. In like fashion, DaimlerChrysler has trotted out its own trio of swarthy swordsmen, led initially by the popular and potent Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum and followed now by the Charger.

I subscribe to Car & Driver, and yeah, the writing is bad. But the pictures are nice and I like the letters to the editor.

I like C&D's writing. I think it is very entertaining and humorous. Road & Track, on the other hand, is ridiculously drab and boring, not too different than reading a text book. And some of the short articles in R&T are written like a high schooler. I don't read many other car magazines because, well, I just don't care so much anymore.

Uh, no. Most expensive != nicest looking.

His analogies did suck though.

C&D has always had the best writing of the major automobile mags, but sometimes they try to out-clever themselves.

They try to out 'analogise' Jeremy Clarkson, who's writing style is very much in the 'funny and witty analogy' vein and has been for a very long time.

C&D, and their writing style, has been around WAAAAY longer than Clarkson. They just celebrated their 50th anniversary. Dick Smothers was a columnist for them in the 60s (or 70s). It's what they've always done.

 

I fvcking hate Brock Yates. I know the guy's been around forever, but why does that give him license to be a stuck-up asshole about EVERYTHING? He writes like everything in this world is beneath him, especially "enviro-pansies," "greenies," and "liberals." He refuses to acknowledge that the future of carmaking will include many small-engined efficient automobiles.

They've long had some of the best writing in the automotive magazine industry. They don't take themselves seriously.

I just read it online, and not often.. mostly insideline and motortrend online every once in a while

I've subscribed to Car and Driver for years. I picked them over other car magazines because their writing style was more enjoyable. That said, some of their wisecracks fall flat. Some of their writers have an outdated sense of humor.
