capturing gameplay without cpu load

hi,

i was wondering if it is possible to capture my gameplay from shooters with a box like this:
http://www.trustedreviews.com/Hauppauge-HD-PVR_Peripheral_review

which would be connected with a:
Y Video Splitter DVI - I Male to DVI Female & VGA Female
or the signal coud be capture from my gfx cards second dvi output - does it just output the same signal as the first one?

and in turn with a vga to rgb cable.
both adapters are quite cheap.

the recording machine will be a seperate one to not slow down the main machine.

some questions:
dvi has no inbuild drm right?
quality will be a bit less than the original dvi signal i assume....any ideas if its a bad quality loss?

Use FRAPS ,,,, and yes of course your CPU will take a hit. But if you have a fast SB or Ivy it should handle it and you shouldnt lose too much fps.. thx gl

I'm hardly an expect here, but what are your system specs, OP? Using FRAPs, I'm able to record gameplay videos using FRAPS at 1440p with minimal slow down in 95% of games on a Core i5 2400.

Assuming you have a modern Intel cpu and a z board... Otherwise just ignore.

Have you looked into using MSI AB or Action! and their ability to leverage QuickSync to encode on the fly?

Also programs like OpenBroadcaster seem to support it as well.

It helps in two ways, reduces I/O load and reduces CPU load because it is encoding (reducing I/O) on the fly with the GPU (reducing cpu cycles).

yup, got a 3570k. according to intel that thing supports quicksync.

but installing the hdxyz driver is problematic. i tried the versions:
15.28.18.3223
15.22.54.64.2622

both say:
Code:
the computer does not meet the minimal requirements for installing the software.

what the hell?
