capturing dv to pc

I'm trying to capture a home video and put it onto DVD, i dont have a IEEE 1394 card so i was thinking about doing it through my tv tuner and the S-Video imput, will the video quality on the DVD be really bad??

The quality of S-video is higher than VHS (assuming that is the format that your home video is on)... there are other factors of course, but the quality of the finished product can't exceed the quality of the source.

If you are capturing footage that was recorded on a DV camera, then I would definitely use firewire to capture. It's faster/easier/higher quality then S-Video. You can get a cheap firewire card at a local store for like $30 or so(not too sure since I use the firewire on my Audigy).

S-Video will definately cause degragation to your recording. Depending on how much you care or how nice your video camera is, this may or may not cause a problem.

Go down to newegg, they have firewire controllers for around 10 bucks and you can get a 6 foot cord for less then that.

hell, depending on the camera you can do cool stuff like control the camera from the computer.
