An American Taliban fighter held captive by Marines in Afghanistan has told American officials that al Qaeda's next attack on the United States will take place in days and involve biological weapons, U.S. intelligence officials told The Washington Times...

John Walker Lindh, the Taliban guerrilla captured near Mazar-e-Sharif, said in intelligence debriefings at the U.S. Marine Corps base near Kandahar that ÒPhase IIÓ of al Qaeda«s war against the United States will occur at the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ends Sunday. He told U.S. intelligence officials that the Ramadan attack will involve the use of biological weapons... MORE...

The information was among other intelligence reports that led the Bush administration to issue a public warning last week about a possible terrorist attack, the officials said...

It's from Drudge ... Not exactly an entirely reliable source, but it's quoted from Gertz.
Still, it's something to think about.

You know, I would not be in the least bit surprised if this guy was working for some US gov't agency, be it the CIA, NSA, FBI, or whatever other secret deptartments we have. There was a debate about this on CNN yesterday, and its not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

drudge is very reliable. He gets a bad wrap from the people who don't know better, but name one time when Drudge has been wrong. he sensationalizes some stuff, but his info is always accurate.

<< what the F are you Reitz, Walter Kronkite? >>

mmm...I dunno about you but it's always nice to have a source. Otherwise let's say someone says "The world is going to blow up in 2 days..." What if the source was National Enquirer? would you believe it? How about if the source was CNN, NBC, etc.? Would you believe it then?

Somehow I doubt that the higher ups in Al-Queda would take some nut from the U.S. into their confidance and give him information of that sort.

Believabilty factor is low.

I live in NYC.
I work in the same building as the NY Post employee that was contaminated with Anthrax.
I work a block from Times Square.
Believability factor may be low, but for me ... low is far from zero.

Its not widely understood, but the Enquirer has undergone a dramatic transformation in the last 5 years and is now a very reliable publication. They have broken many top news stories with incredible accuracy. They will always be known by some for their tactics of old times, but currently, they are on the way to be quite a respectable (news) publication.

I use to think Drudge was full of sh1t too, but the last few breakings news they've done has turned out correct (and i've only been following it the last couple of months). So who knows.

Somehow I doubt that the higher ups in Al-Queda would take some nut from the U.S. into their confidance and give him information of that sort.

You're right. I find it hard to believe he has information. Infact, the way these terrorists cells operate, VERY few people know anything... if John Walker does know, then he was a part of it somehow... perhaps helping obtain visas or something.

This only makes me think more that he works for the US and is giving this as a heads-up warning before it happens.

Yeah, but if that were the case, then don't you think this would've been kept more quiet?
They did say that when the prison riot started, British and US forces extracted him from the prison.

If he was captured last week, and the attack was supposed to happen in days. Where is the attack? They released a Warning last week and nothing. Usually these attacks aren't something that they wake up to and say - oh, hell, let's do it today.....

Also, how does that little piss-on know about an attack - Furthermore, who the hell trusts him? He's a f**kin traitor

He said it was going to happen "at the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ends Sunday."
The warning went out last week when they debriefed him.
The attack "within days" is within days of today.

Strange, the warning that went out last week said nothing about this Sunday.....just said an attack was upcoming (possibly)....Anyways, I'm not buying it....

It's possible the terrorists accepted him in only to feed him misinformation in the case he is in fact a spy.

<< why is it that drudge gets no respect? a bunch of people seem to think he's some kind of tabloid or something... >>

Good question. It's not like Drudge wrote this story himself. It's from the Washington Times, in case anyone decided to click-through. A lot of his "breaking" stories are just links to other publications.

No, I just prefer to see the original article so I can make my own assessment.

Me too...Not that I don't trust you guys 😉

Probably not, but there's probably discussion of it and leaks everywhere...just like with our own government.

I don't know, being from the Bay Area, the story that's been broadcast seems like something that could happen to one of the kids around here pretty easy...that he could be recruited as a spy seems less likely.

That he may *start* working as an operative to get a softened sentence is more likely...
