Capture Card Display Problems

So I followed the instructions of the video above, but when I did the final step with plugging the TV's HDMI last into the splitter, I didn't get any picture on my TV. I found out that when I switch the 360's option for 480p resolution, it works, but you know, it's 480p and not 720p what I want. When I switch it back to 720p, the TV screen goes black. Eventually on my TV I get "mode not supported". The 360 displays on my computer no problem with the Aver program.

I use two different brands of HDMI cables so is that the problem? Is my $10 splitter bad? Thank you in advance for any input.
