Hard to get excited about rich people wasting money on rich people stuff when the rest of us are dying, starving, and warring on a progressively poisoned planet. I think if I were offered the chance to ride, I'd probably turn it down and ask them to take the costs of my seat and give it to charity or something.

To boldly go where no 90 year old diapered man has gone before.

I'm with Wolffe here, it's a pretty amusing idea that a science-fi icon like Shatner will be going into space. I felt the same way when they sent Glenn back up there.

Can we leave him there?

I seem to recall Shatner having a reputation for being kind of a douche, but I can't recall what specifically were the complaints, other than that he didn't get along with all his co-stars.

There is a lengthy list of poor behavior but suffice it to say he's a huge self centered insensitive asshole. He's kind of notorious.
Basically watch Galaxy Quest and he's Tim Allen's character but less sympathetic.

Jeez, tough crowd.

I do agree that as I get older it's pretty hard to get excited by rich people's adventures, as the wealth gap widens and people are struggling. I also don't think we should even try to get off this planet until we evolve mentally, and that probably means we should never get off this planet. Not that my wishes or opinions matter, climate change is coming to slap us back a few hundred years the way things are looking (for the non-rich that can't escape to guarded compounds, they'll only go back 50 or so.)

Ah, so just the usual. He's an egotistical Hollywood actor.

Kirk: Standard orbit Mr. Chekov
Chekov: But Captain you are 200 lbs heavier
Kirk: You heard my orders Mister, standard orbit.

Ship burns up in the upper atmosphere

Totally frivolous news topic here. Taking a break from the depressing world of politics.

William Shatner, age 90, is evidently going up on the next Blue Origins space flight.

Seems dangerous for someone of that age. High risk of heart attack. But I was thinking if he did die in space it would be an oddly fitting end.
I was worried that the flight might be aborted because Jeff can't afford an elevator for Bill.
Edit: It's at least a full 4 story walk up.

That makes me think of Zapp Brannigan and Kif.

How much carbon footprint does that generate? Does this publicity stunt outrage the shitlibs? I doubt it.

How sad and empty your life must be to take the time to post this. I hope you find peace and healing.

Virtually none, dipshit. New Shepard burns liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. CO2 is not a byproduct of combusting hydrogen and oxygen, which you'd know if you took general science in 9th grade. The rocket does emit small amounts of water vapor which is used as coolant, but it's not that significant.

Also, it's a little too soon to worry about rocket emissions given the infrequency of launches. When we're launching about 100x more often than we are today, we'll have something to discuss.

Shatner is the same age as my dad and a lot more energetic than mine. Shatner seems really nervous especially the longer the launch is delayed. This isn't a Hollywood set, it's the real thing. Can't call cut, can't ask for a stand-in if something goes wrong, this is the real thing, Bill.

Nobody accused the right of being smart.
