Thing is, as nasty as the germans were in WWII they were human like any else of us. There wasn't something in the water. Although I abhor what they did I am aware that most humans are capable of it under the correct (or wrong in this case) leadership.

What keeps things from this happening in the future is a keen understanding of history.

<< The atrocities commited by the Germans during WW2 is just mind blowing. >>

The atrocities committed by the Soviets were much much worse. Too bad our media ignores it.

The education system should be held responsible for teaching history to people, not the media. Unfortunately, it seems to be otherwise. I was shocked to see the lack of sound content in the history books in this country. Being the so called 'melting pot' I expected the opposite. But, that is a different issue. Crimes against humanity be it German or Russia are the same to me. It happend then, it is happening today.

Good thing you didnt see Enemy at the Gates.

HowardStern, which atrocities do you mean? The gulags, purges, something else?

I'm more than sure they did. You can add americans to your list to. No war goes without 'atrocities'.

Read through the link that jolly provided. Its bloody disgusting.

I can't imagine anybody reading through that site and not getting pissed off!

Many Jews can no longer subscribe to the biblical idea of God who manifests himself in history, who, they say with Wiesel, died in Auschwitz. The idea of a personal God, like one of us writ large, is fraught with difficulty. If this God is omnipotent, he could have prevented the Holocaust. If he was unable to stop it, he is impotent and useless; if he could have stopped it and chose not to, he is a monster. Jews are not the only people who believe that the Holocaust put an end to conventional theology.

Two things I want to quickly add.

<< Did the British/Canadians/French etc do anything evil during WWI/II? >>

Firstly the winner writes teh history books. I assure you that none of the above mentioned nations nor the americans were saints.

Secondly auschwitz is not in Austria it is in Poland. Just wanted to clear that up...

Yes, I don't know why I was thinking Austria. Perhaps I was thinking Hitler.

<< On a side note, why did they have to pick nicholas cage... his italian accent is soooooo fake it almost made me laugh. >>

Hey, it could have been worse! At least they cast Kevin Kostner. I saw his version of Robin Hood and the movie stunk. His british accent was ludicrous. I think he had to produce direct and finance the film in order to get that on film.

Not trying to be funny but do you have any evidence to support this as I would be very interested in seeing it. Thanks in advance.

Winners do write history, and I'm sure there was some prisoner abuse orchestrated by the allies, but I haven't really heard of it. If it happened it could not have been on anything but a small scale not tolerated for long by high level officers.

Absolutely, all sides in all wars before have. The atrocities committed by the Allies were not even a drop in the bucket to what the Axis did, though, and that is a fact.

Read Chuck Yeager's first book about machine-gunning German pilots in their parachutes.(or as they were about to jump) That was considered sort of "against the rules" of pilots, but it did happen....that way the other pilot can't jump in another plane and shoot you or any of your fellow pilots down.
Of course that's not killing or starving prisoners, forcing them to work as slave labor, forcing the women to have sex with your soldiers, murdering millions of civilians, etc.
As I said, the Axis were by FAR the greatest offenders in WWII.
