Just bought Capote w/out watching it first as I heard it got a few awards and was pretty fantastic. I thought it was incredibly boring and nothing more than a decent acting job by Philip Seymour Hoffman. What's with the big country wide hard-on for this film?

I'm somewhat of a film snob and I still say this one sucks. I quit halfway through both times I tried to watch it. Hoffman's acting was good but also what I hated, I suppose the mannerisms of Capote himself is what made me hate this one.

Everybody has different tastes, but PSH was so submerged in the role that it might seem like an effortless performance at times, but I thought he was great because of how convincing and fluid he was. As for the movie as whole, it wasn't touted to be a masterpiece, but rather a vehicle for the actor, much like "Being Julia" was for Annette Benning the year prior.

I guess that makes sense. He did a great job no doubt. I just expected better from what I heard.

I somehow made it through this movie without turning it off.
That's about the best thing I have to say about it.

It was just an ok movie all around. I don't even feel that Hoffman's acting was that good. I honestly don't know of anyone other than the Oscars that made a big deal about it. If it had been as hyped as the Illusionist or the Prestige I would probably not like it. Incidentally it was yet another story that had two movies about it come out within a pretty short span of each other.

Haven't seen it, and maybe the acting was good but c'mon, it's a story about Capote. How interesting can that be?
