Capcom officially announces Lost Planet 2

If you didn't notice, Capcom had a banner on the XBL Dash saying that a new game announcement was coming. Well, today is the day and that new game is Lost Planet 2 and the video is available for download from XBL Marketplace.

Looks like they took some of the complaints from the first Lost Planet and are trying to fix those as the video shows off things like co-op (possibly 4-player?), mechs with passenger seats/turrets, playing different characters, etc. Gamersyde has pics and videos.

I liked the first game very much but it did have its share of problems such as exaggerated stumbling animations and the last few levels were not as good as the first half of the game. The game sure looked fantastic (still does especially on pc) so I'll keep an eye out for this.

I didn't like the demo at all so never tried the first game. I wonder if LP2 is going to keep the cross compatibility multiplayer w/ the PC.

I thought Lost Planet was a good rental/cheap purchase. The juggling was annoying but the gameplay was enjoyable enough though I didn't care for the final boss fight. Some of the multiplayer maps were pretty good too.

Exactly. I thought LP was boring as hell.

Agreed. I rented it and played through single player, and tried a bit of multiplayer, and I thought it was decent. The controls could be annoying but otherwise it was a fairly solid game from what I remember.

LOL

Speaking to VideoGamer.com, Christian Svensson, Capcom vice president, business development and strategic planning, expanded on that announcement, saying Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi, who is producing the Lost Planet sequel, is going to "take it up five notches".

He said: "I'm a big Lost Planet fan myself, and I've seen a fair amount of the game at this point. Takeuchi-san and the team here have had numerous meetings over what went right, what went wrong on Lost Planet 1, how we can make a better game for the second.

"Takeuchi's approach was, you know what we're not going to sit back on our laurels and just shit out a sequel, we're actually going to take it up five notches. We're not going to under invest in this, we're actually going to over invest in this, and we're going to build it bigger."

Apparently, the Lost Planet devs are huge fans of COD4 and so some things in Lost Planet 2 will be influenced by that as well.

I really liked LP - except for the lousy ending and last boss being annoying as hell. Apart from that I really enjoyed playing it. Can't wait for the sequel! 🙂
