Capacity' Of BP To Solve, Military Might Have Role

I have more confidence in BP's engineers to figure this out than the military, they know oil wells, the military does not. Let the Army COE keep working on containing the spill.

My tea-party talking point prediction? If Obama sends in the military, he's going to be called a leftist strongman (a la Chavez) for sending the military against a hapless Oil Company; if he doesn't send in the military, then he's worse than Bush's Katrina.

What are yours? The game is really easy to play.

WHAT ARE YOU SMOKIN??
The Military has no experience in capping this well......
Even if Obama did call in the military it would NOT be against BP.....
It would be in a support role.
Ole Colin Powell is blowing smoke out his ass...he knows nothing about this!!

A friend said it's called "Pot Of Gold".

At best the military could be used to clean beaches.

Perhaps the navy might have something to offer in the gulf with traffic control of logistics, but I doubt they are needed.

And if the Army goes in to fix the well and fails making the spill worse, BPs liability would be lowered.

Why no use the free labor of prison inmates to clean the beaches.
(Oh wait, can't do that because of the "progressives", never mind)

About the only thing the military could do is nuke the site from orbit. I doubt any branch of the military has the expertise within its ranks to solve this issue better than BP.

I'm not sure why the current 'conservatives' aren't championing this. It is a corporatist's wet dream! Privatize profits but socialize losses...its the American way!

Wasn't it an Army Corps of Engineers that lead to New Orleans being flooded? Shoddy levies and building the city below sea level and all that...

Not sure I want those people working on ANYTHING.

True conservatives do not think this way, though it is the platform of most of the Democrats and RINOs in office right now.

Remember, the Dems are just as beholden to the banking industry as the Republicans in office are. Just as many of them hold their fortunes in stocks and bonds and just as many get major contributions from bankers.

Neocons and RINOs are not the only ones to blame for the Fanny and Freddy bailouts.

Uh.. before you get your panties in a bunch, he's not talking about having the military try to cap the well or going "against BP", he's talking about getting the military involved with the containment and cleanup of the actual spill. Basically, at this point the government has to use everything at it's disposal to try and help, including the military. If (and that's a big "IF") there is something the military can do to help (manpower, logistics, coordination, equipment etc) then let them do it.

I wish people would stop seeing everything in the world through political ideological glasses for just a minute. This is not (or should not be) about pinning the blame on anyone, this is about doing whatever can be done to minimize the damage and impact to the environment.

Fuck the military. What how many people do we have on food stamps and government aid? Why don't we tell these low life's get out there and FUCKING work for your food stamps.

Sheesh. Lazy assholes.

Obama should just spend gobs of $ helping at this, they are going to sue BP for restitution regardless...and you know they have enough $ to actually pay

Powell's right... the Fed should get more involved and use all the resources at its disposal, including the military, to help deal with the emergency. This should have been done earlier.

I don't think we should hold back ANY resource, personally. Deal with the issue, then assign blame and all that. It's really for the common good for people to stop wagging their dicks around about who has the power and just get this crap solved.

I know...I said that mostly in jest. The problem also has to do with how one defines a 'true conservative'. Fiscal conservative? Social conservative? There are too many definitions. That is part of why I am weary of conservatives these days, despite the fact that I used to be one.

You are correct though...the corporatists rule the roost in DC, whether they have a (D) or an (R) by their name.

hahaha OP tried to pull a Patr-anus with his mis-leading thread title....

Thx for making your new threadf title accurate!!

I'm pretty sure it was the sea level that was responsible for the flooding in parts of NOLA.

you are way to amusing.....
I guess building the City below sea level...yet you make statements not understand why it was built under sea level....

I am all for arresting BP executives and using them for free labor for cleanup.
