Capacitance conversion

Can somebody explain the relative power capabilities between capacitors and batteries? I found some 350 Farad capacitors and was wondering how they would compare to NiMH or other batteries in common, slow drain applications.

Hi, A farad would be about the size of your house. You mean 350 MicroFarads. It would not come near the capacity of any battery. It would probably put out a couple of milliamps for a very short time. Jim

One farad @ 12V is (and has been) available for car stereo installations for a while (years).

I also have, in my possesion, a one farad @5V cap that is about the size of three nickles stacked.

I was amazed. Waaaaaaaaay back when, when I was in electronics class, we had to calculate the size of a one farad cap and plate area .... about the best we could do (this was in '72) was about the size of an eighteen wheeler.

When I saw the One Farad(!) cap (~3 years ago) I ordered a couple as samples.


Ain't technology grand? I love this stuff ....

Nah, these things are 350F +/- 20%.
