Anyone here experienced in the ways of cap washing?

I have one of those cap washing racks that you put in the dish washer.

But would you use dish washing detergent to clean it or clothes washing detergent?

It would seem clothes detergent might be better for the caps, but I'm not sure if it's designed for use in dishwashers. 😕
 
Hot water should be fine thats all I have ever used. I tried dishwashing detergent one time on an all white hat. . .DO NOT WANT!!!!

Once the cap has been busted in yo'ass, you can't be washin' it, yo. Dat ass don't be fittin' in da'dishawasha'yo. Word to the mo'peace'm'peeps'yo.

Somehow, I've become infected by the music videos shown to white youths in the Midwest. It's sad, really.

Anyway, just throw your nasty ass hat in the washing machine with the appropriate (white/color) load. It will be fine. If you really cared about your "collectors edition NY Yankees Hat" you wouldn't be wearing it in the first place.
 
The washing machine really ages a hat. If that's what you want, great - otherwise a friend of mine who liked them to look new always used to wash them in the shower with shampoo, so you could give that a try. Either way you do it, air-dry it.
 
I filled my sink up with water and detergent. I hand washed the cap the best I could, then let it sit in the water for a few hours. I then drained the water and did the same thing with non-soapy water to get the suds out. After letting it airdry it was good as new.
 
I've washed plenty in the dishwasher (with dishwashing liquid) without problems. Doubt there's a big difference between clothes/dish detergent but I'm not willing to bet my dishwasher on a hunch.

Never used one of the hat washing racks. I just stick it on the top shelf

This is exactly what I do. Works great and doesn't put too much wear on the hat.

A well-seasoned cap should never be washed. The dirt, sweat stains, tears, and scrapes give it character and make it a proper cap you should be proud to wear. Unless you're one of those idiots that wears your cap with the bill still flat and the tag still on it.
 
I have an expensive wool hat. If yours is wool, you should hand wash in the sink with woolite, and air dry.

Except after a years worth of sweat starts crystallizing on the bill of the hat.
 
Don't put clothes washing detergent in your dishwasher. It will overflow all over the kitchen. Really, I seen it done.
 
I have a cap I wear to mow the lawn, work outside, etc. It gets nasty and fully sweat stained in about 6 weeks. I tossed it on the top rack in the dishwasher the first time, but the bleach in the detergent faded the color. Now it gets washed in the sink by hand.
 
IMO, the cap washing chingaderas (ball cap buddy?) are almost totaly worthless.

They don't really fit any cap properly, so they still come out mis-shapen. The ONLY positive is that they keep the bill relatively flat while washing.

Once a ball cap gets to the point of needing to be washed, it's usually a work hat IMO. I spray the bill and sweat band with Shout, let it sit for a while, then toss it in the washing machine with a load of clothes. Then, I shape it by adjusting the band as tight as it will go, then stick in on a 3 lb. coffee can to dry. The plastic ones Folger's uses are pretty decent. Fit my big fucking Jarhead pretty well, without actually having that Marine block...

Yeah, I can't believe there's a fad to keep the stickers on the hat. Seriously, wtf? Why is it cool to show that you have a hat size of 7 5/8?
