Canterwood Dilemma - Abit, Gigabyte or Intel???

Building a new system from scratch, will be used mostly for video editing, audio production and graphics. Maybe mild OC but stability is real important.

I've narrowed it down to:

Abit IC-7G
Gigabyte GA-8KNXP
Intel D875PBZ

(1) I see the Intel has a 3-year warranty, but can't find out warranty on other two. Where is that info posted?
(2) I'm worried about Abit and Gigabyte support and stability - any sites that have data on this?
(3) I need HT as most of my primary apps are HT-optimized. Are the upcoming 800FSB P4's HT other than the 3.0?

Only the Gigabyte is available right now, the Abit due next week, but the Intel is pretty much no where to be found. I can't wait too long as right now I just have Toshiba 5205 notebook...

If stability is your primary concern and you don't really need to overclock the nthe Intel is hard to beat. At stock speeds they are the fastest board available.

The new 800MHz FSB Pentiums are all supposed to have HT enabled down to 2.4GHz.

The Gigabyte has a great feature set but It will probably be much more expensive than the IC7-G.

I just ordered the MSI 875P NEO-FIS2R. Great reviews and features. I'll let you know how it is when I get it.

newegg has the gigabyte for $250 (in stock) and the abit for $229 (ETA 5-1). I can't find the Intel board anywhere reputable or stock.

The other issue is I do need 2 firewire ports, so I would have to add that to the Intel board...

"The Canterwood Dilemma" - sound like a 50's british spy novel 🙂

Thanks - what's the warranty on MSI? Also, have you owned an MSI before - how's their support?

I've looked at a lot of MSI boards, but this is my first one. I've heard that they have great support, not sure on the warranty though.

If warranty or support is your thing, go Abit. They pretty much all have 3 year warrantys, but MSI has awful support and Intel's is so-so.

The Gigabyte is my favorite, but the new Chaintech 9CJS is very tempting, with 7.1 channel Envy24PT and VIA Vinyl audio, and all the accessories like 6-in-1 media reader and IR remote.

if you're doing an overclock then get either the Abit of Gigabyte...........both look very tempting

I go with quality before warranty. I know from past experiance that Abit boards suck. Not sure about MSI yet, but I've heard good things.

No offense, but it really doesn't sound as if you know anything. Abit makes top-quality stuff.

Maybe, but not the Abit boards that I've used. Could be just a fluke, but I don't trust them anymore.

I just found that it's two years warrany through MSI

I've been trudging through all this Canterwood stuff and from what I can see so far, if you want to overclock a 533 MHz FSB CPU, the Aopen AX4C looks like the best, followed by the Abit IC7.

And followed up with a 3 year warranty.. 😉

I'm going straight to 800FSB CPU, probably the 3.0. I like the clean engineering of the Abit design - starting to lean more that way...
