I can only write audio files to my Plextor CD-R(W) in Win XP. Get an error screen whenever I try to write any other type file. I use XP's built in software. Won't work with CD-R or CD-RW? Any ideas?

The built in software in XP only supports buring files (no packet support), so if your trying to write out an .iso or something similar it won't work. Can you post the exact error message you get when you try to write a non-audio file?
I am only trying to put some photos (JPEG) on a CD. The error box that comes up is:
Cannot complete the CD Writing Wizard:
There was an error in the CD writing process. The disc you attempted to write to may no longer be usable.
Then it list options. It doesn't matter what type disc I use (CD-R or CD-RW). I can immediately start a new writing process with the same disc and write MP3 files, no problem.
Have you done all the Windows updates and installed SP1? IIRC, there was some updates that had to do with CD burning issues.. I know this may not help solve your immediate problem, But if the updates fail, NERO is a very good burning suite that can be had for less than EZCD Creator.
Updated with SP 1. I have both Nero and EZ CD, but I hate the various conflicts. XP was working fine. I would like to know what happened. Was SP 1 the problem?
I installed SP1 in my XP Pro and have not had a single problem with it. Made my XP Pro run faster and I have zero problems with it. I read an article saying that more than 90% of SP1 installations were with no problems.
My guess is those who have problems with SP1 probably had problems with their XP before installing SP1. Make sure your XP/Pro is running perfectly before installing SP1 and you will get the same good results I have.
Have no problems w/SP 1. Just now I can't write anything to CD-R(W) except for audio files. SP 1 probably had nothing to do with it but something does. Just trying to track the problem down.
