can't watch bink video

just dl'd the new hl2 videos. opened one of them for the first time and it worked fine. now whenever I try to open any bink file, it changes the video mode, puts a small black box in the upper left corner and plays sound but no video. restarting doesn't fix it

did you change anything on your machine between when it worked and when it didn't?

what player are you using? when you say there is a small black box, is this outside of the player, or is it part of the playback window?

I don't know what you mean by player...I have an executable that has a bink video icon and when I double click it, it changes to the right video mode, but just displays a small black box in the corner on top of whatever was already on the screen
