man just checked egg, they droped 3500+ single core to under 100 bucks!
hell I think the X2 gonna get an axe in price real soon tomorrow morning.

monarch is selling AM2 3800+ for 157, 939 version for 162, but they might go lower tomorrow since everyone will kick their prices down by then.

but here's my take, if you gonna spent 200+, just get E6300 OC to about 3 Ghz that can't be matched by any AMD OCed or not. 300+ get a E6600+ OC to about 4 Ghz then you got a king of the hill on your hand.

but if you going for 100-150 bucks I think maybe a low-end AMD x2 will do it, although you might have to OC it to make it reasonably decent.

under 100 bucks looks like you can get a nice single core like 3500+ etc. for a price of sempy.

well the 4400 dropped to 250 in the real time pricing... So who knows, I hope the 4800 does, that would be my pick if it does. Conroe would have to be at most $50 bucks more for better speeds

ya, I have to say if conroe 6xxx is at 180/200 I think that's better call. SInce they can go up to 3 OCed and that's like nothing AMD can touch. If 200 I say lowest conroe is better but 150 I think maybe some decent OCable X2 can be good pick for P/P ratio.

Hmm... I think this 3000+ is gonna go to FS/FT soon and I'm gonna have to get myself a 4200+.

Dude, relax. Newegg's and everyone else's prices will change on Monday. Monarch is just trying to get people to bite early. The prices should be a good $50 lower come Monday.

You see im used to seeing $300 on an X2, and wasnt expecting to see the drops so soon. You say the $158 X2 will be $108?

I was talking about the 1MB chips like the 4800+. No reason it shouldn't dip under $300. The 4600+ is only ~$240. 4800+ not worth $80 more. Especially when a 4200+ is only $175 and that's ~$65 difference for 400+ difference. So 200+ difference from 4600 to 4800 = ~$30 plus figure a few bucks for the bigger cache, so a price around $275-285 is reasonable.

Yeah, Monarch's CPU's prices have not been the lowest for quite some time. I am sure when Newegg and Zipzoomfly lower their prices Monday, if the trend continues, they should be even cheaper.

Also, when AMD ruduced the prices of some of it's single core several weeks ago. It took a good ten days or so for the prices to hit their lowest point.

You "should" be able to buy an X2 3800 with a dollar to spare. ;)

Yes, my 4800 will be the processor to use, unless the conroe comes in at the same price with a higher clock...

I will not be doing much overclocking, unless I get a DUMMIES GUIDE

I guess I'm the only one not too excited about the price drop yet. Don't get me wrong-- I love price drops... great for all consumers. What I mean is that I won't be rushing to grab an X2 upgrade just yet. Don't know how much my 3000+ A64 will sell for used, so I could see it being a $75+ upgrade for me.

I don't play a single game that would actually take advantage of that 2nd core, and my video encoding is rare (and usually in the middle of the night). So, for me at least, that's a $75 upgrade I can wait a little longer on. Not that I think the x2 3800+ is gonna drop any further, but, if I'm not actually using my $75 worth, it'd be a bit of a hollow upgrade for me.

Hah, prices got slashed massively I doubt you could get $75+ out of your used single-core chip since that's the retail price for them.

Heh I told you guys a year ago AMD would be selling sub $100 dual cores and $50 single cores and thier stock price would be $10 like back in Northwood C days.. everyone laughed at me or called me names... Just wait a couple more weeks. Never underestimate a 20% performance lead - it crippled intel for years and now will cripple AMD.

I love it! Who do these guys think they are selling us $20 peices of silicon for $500?
