Thoughts?

Need very good cooling but also on the quiet side (quietness not the highest priority).

I got my stacker last Dec. it was a wise chose...making another system next month and trying to decide whether to have 2 cases that look the same in the house or getting a p180...

would not go wrong with a stacker by no means

If you haven't bought something else yet, go grab a P180 for ~$148 shipped from http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop/sho...e&thispage=01100500U011_BF09960P.shtml

I preordered last friday, it came to their PA warehouse on 6/15, shipped out evening 6/15, and UPS tried to deliver it to my NY home at 12:30p today 6/16! Pretty freakin fast for ground shipping :)

Great service, great price; only downside is no online order history, you have to contact their (very attentive) customer service team. Order status updates (confirmed, on backorder, shipped, etc.) come via email.

You can get a similar look with some Lian-Li cases... Not the best for sound but a fan controller helps a lot.

Lian-Li v1100 isn't just an alternative... it's better. Antec got their ideas for the internal layout of the P180 from the lian-li v1100. It's so obvious. And in terms of build quality, no one comes within miles of LL. Then again, you'll have to sell a kidney and perhaps a few islands to afford the v1100.

Lian-Li 1100, better...hmmmm.....

I see a nice exterior but also flaws:

1. No front reset button
2. Front I/O nearly on the floor
3. Inferior cooling. The non standard motherboard position of the LL does not allow for a rear fan to be placed near the top where heat migrates to. Those passive grates don't do squat. Not only does the P180 have good rear fan placement, but also a top corner fan for very good air movement across the mb. Also, the rear fan grill on the LL is very restrictive as seen here: http://images.gruntville.com/images/hardware/lianli_v1100/v1100/LL10.jpg
(Should you really have to take a dremel to a $250 case???) And, not a whole lot of open area on the front for air to get into the interior also. I would say the P180 absolutely stomps the crap out of the LL 1100 in the cooling dept. Apples and oranges here folks.

Lian-Li also highjacks ideas from Antec (Compucase). Case in point, the 7B Plus. Notice how the 7B was upgraded to rear 120mm with a very unrestrictive grill. Looks clearly like a ripoff of the SuperLanboy. Needless to say, I am not too impressed with Lian-Li but I do believe their best case from a cooling standpoint is the 7B Plus. If I was an LL fan, that is the case I'd own. Myself, I am an Antec 3000b user...cool, quiet, great quality at a great price. $43 at Amazon....my favorite of the 8 Antec cases I've owned. A case to me is something I don't stare at, I do want optimal cooling though.

Honestly, I'd expect a whole heck of alot more from a $250 LL. Why perform mods on something that should never be an issue to start with. As always....my $0.02....

You bring up good points...

1) True, no front reset button. Personally, I hadn't thought about this until now. Probably a good thing... if it was a real nusiance to me, I'm sure I would have noticed. Knock on wood. Methinks from now on, however, I will notice, so thanks.
2) the I/O is nearly on the floor... once again, good point. I try and keep my machine as aesthetically pleaseing as possible, so I plug my peripherals into the back.
3) Inferior cooling? No. It's a bit tricky, but once you get your setup right, it cools beautifully... many people have encountered issues with cooling, but a little thinking prior to assembling your machine inside a v1100b can save you alot of trouble. I won't repeat how here, because I go into it here... (a few up from the last one http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...STARTPAGE=2&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear)
As another member points out. The other thing to remember is that yes, you can get a very cheap case with lots of fans that could keep the inside of our sun at a refreshing 27c. But it won't ever be as quiet as the dampened v1100b. With ambient noise levels, I have to listen hard to hear my mahcine, and it's sitting right beside me. Point is, you have to use a little gray matter to understand how to cool a v1100b... but it's certaintly not hard, and I'm convinced it performs as well as any. However, it'll be keeping your rig cool at a fraction of the noise level.

I also don't think it's fair to compare the adoption of a certain type of fan grill to the blatant replication of an entire layout design. The P180 literally photocopies all the interal innovations that Lian-Li pioneered.

I also would saythat in terms of sheer build quality and materials, Lian-Li is so far ahead of the pack it's ridiculous.

True, the LL is 250. But I wouldn't compare it to your much cheaper case... the topic of this article was an alternative to the P180, which, on Froogle right now, is going for 140-170. I have no problem spending a hundred more to reward the company that introduced such great innovations that others are now copying.
