meh, well its not that simple really. crts are still the option for those who want to spend less. and why not... crts still have the better contrast ratio and stuff.

I think these bridge the divide between cost and the best picture available. I'm in, once I see one for myself in person. If it blows away LCD or Plasma like I think it will, I'll probably buy.

picture quality is gobs better on CRTs, in general.

i want this stuff in computer monitors.

yup. just imagine if plasma or lcd were the same thickness as the thin crt😛 u wouldn't even bother with em because of their deficiencies. they only make up for their inferior picture with their size at the moment.

translation for the not so smart...

lcd/plasma: thin, but poor picture quality, distortions bad for eyes
thin crt: same awesome picture quality as fat crt, less distortions means good for eyes

No. LCD and plasma cannot reproduce true blacks, because it's impossible for those types to block out all light for black pixels. I think. CRTs don't have to excite the phosphors at all.

I have, and they still cannot come close to CRTs. Sony simply attempts to trick your eyes using special glare screens that make the blacks look a little better. But stick it in a DARK room next to a CRT, and you'll see gray, not black.

Sony buys from Pioneer and NEC. Also, their XBR is 1 gen behind the times (KDE-50XBR950 sucks more than HDE-50XS955).
