Can't Use Browsers

I have been having problems with browsing the internet. After about half an hour of use, I will not be able to continue browsing the internet. It's as if I've been disconnected, but I can still ping google and use AIM. However, if I log out of AIM I cannot log back in. This problem persisted for a few weeks, went away for a couple weeks after that, and has now resurfaced. The only way that I have been able to regain browsing capabilities is by restarting the computer. The computer is connected to a router and is the only one in the network that has this problem (one is directly connected to the modem and the other is connected to the router wirelessly).

Have you checked for spyware/viruses?

Also, do you clear your cache and cookies from time to time? Which cookies you keep is up to you, and the methods of clearing other extraneous build up varies from browser to browser.

I ran a virus scan with AVG Free and it didn't help. I do clear the cache and cookies quite regularly and have tried flushing DNS cache using ipconfig /flushdns, but it didn't help.

Get the free versions o f Spybot and SUPERAntiSpyware. Download both, install, update them, and run them.

It may or may not solve the problem, but it can't hurt. 🙂

I am using Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2.

You have one computer connected directly to a modem and one on a Router?

If it is so, it might be a problematic Topology.

May be you should elaborate more on the IP and routing arrangement.

We have 3 computers (2 desktops and 1 laptop). One desktop is the host (I don't know if that's the right terminology but I think you'll know what I mean), one desktop is connected to the network via ethernet, and the laptop is connected wirelessly.

I ran the spyware programs and the problem persists. Any more suggestions? (Would a HijackThis log help at all?)
