I have been using comcast.net for about 3 years now(used to be @home) and over the past year or so my service has gotten very bad. My downloads are still solid, but I have essentially no upload. Right now I have 2 computers running on comcast. I have them networked and my XP box is running ICS. Now when i go to upload anything, it just wont go. I cant send email attachments, I cant send files on AIM...infact, even submitting forms takes forever. Now these problems exist on both machines, but I had them before i started using ICS, so Im hesitent to blame it on that. I called comcast and they gave me all this crap about power output on my blah blah blah head end being low, and asked me to wait a few days. That was a month ago and the problem is no better. I just havent had time to call them back and sit on hold forever. I mean, I pay almost $50 a month and I want a service that works. Im not looking to run an FTP server, but if I want to IM an mp3 to a friend i should have enough speed to do that in a resonable amount of time(not the 19000 minute estimate that AIM gives me). I cant even upload files to my web space from comcast through their portal. Im basically posting and hoping to get some idea or ammunition for when I call them again...because I want results.
thanks,
-doug

PS. Sorry this is in the 'wrong forum' but I wasnt having any luck getting replies on the Networking forum. Please help me out. Thanks.

Comcast has implemented a cap on U/L rates. (They have been phasing it in for nearly a year or so)

Being the lucky soul I am, I was in the early bunch and have been capped at about 15KPS.

I called them and pleaded to let me pay more or something to allow unrestricted rates like I originally had (about 150KPS)

They said NO (the bastards)

So, we're hosed. ADSL sux0rz and SDSL (has the good rates) is too expensive.

/me sighs

PS: I hounded Comcast on the phones for nearly two months before they fessed up. (I threatened to complain to the FCC if they didn't quit lying to me.) They would give me canned answers like ".... we are experiencing some difficulties and it will be fixed shortly" "... Unplug your modem from the wall and count to 20.." "Bring in your modem and we will give you a new one..." and on and on. It took the threats to a supervisior (who would only talk to me about every third complaint or so) to finally get him to tell me (as close as I can remember...) "Comcast has made the decision to implement upload rate limiting so as to preserve D/L performance....."

I'd be happy with 15 right now! Anyone know why I have literally no upload. I mean, why would they cap me so low that I cant even send an HTML file to their own webspace they give me. Hell, I'd get better uploads with dial-up.

I had MediaOne cable(1500/300) for 2+ years and loved it. Then for my X-mas gift CONcast took over. CONcast killed the speeds, USENET, VPN, and everything else they could. So 3 weeks ago I dropped them. Luckily there is another cable provider that just opened up in our city and they are getting SO many calls they can't believe it the installer said. I feel you pain man.

I'm getting 1203kbps down and 117kbps up right now. I haven't seen much of a difference since the changeover to comcast.net.

Now for less money I get approx 1900/400. The only sell it as 1500/300, but have set the caps at 2000/500.

THIS is why monopolies are normally broken up and competition is so important.

Comsh*t knows they don't have to worry about any widespread defection and we get it in the arse!

I am close to being able to affort SDSL (about 125.00 a month for 728/728) and will wear a smile when I

can finally (oops, I guess it broke on the way in......... :D ) return this modem to Comcast!

I was really pleased when I got a $5.00 modem rental charge. The best part was that modem had been sitting in my house from MediaOne for 2+ years:)
