Can't update my profile due to special characters in my name...

If special characters aren't allowed, why don't they just go through the database and strip them out of all usernames?

The whole system is in an inconsistent state; seems sloppy to just let thousands of accounts be half-broken.

If they did that there would be a large population of users who could not log in. In addition to all the duplicate accounts that might be made as a result.

Leaving it the way it is and addressing the problem accounts on a one-by-one basis is probably the lesser of two evils.

Well, I can change mine now. I never actually asked to have it fixed, so I dunno if it's fixed wholesale.
