Everything has been running good for a couple days on my new system that I built over the weekend. Well, last night I went to boot up win2000 and I recieved an error message.
Stop: 0x00000050 blah blah blah PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
I tried disk repair, starting in safe mode, turning off bios memory cache...EVERYTHING and I still am unable to get into win2000. What could be some causes to this error. I installed a few programs before this reboot, fireworks, flash, and limewire. I hope this isnt a hardware problem. I have an AMD 1.33gig with MSI k7 master mobo, 512mb of crucial memory...more if you need it. Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately this usually, (but not always) points to some type of hardware or driver problem. Had you added any new hardware before it crashed? I'm not familiar with the software you installed. (Did you mean LiveWare, or Limeware?) You may want to boot into safe mode and uninstall the software packages one at a time and see if it will boot after uninstalling each.

(BTW - Make sure you have the Via 4-in-1 drivers installed...)

Here's a link to the specific error description in the MS Knowledge Base: http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWS2000/en/messages/5226.htm

And a link to a general description of the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error: http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWS2000/en/messages/5398.htm

I cant boot in safe mode and the hardware I recently installed was the entire system!! After work today I will try to unplug and replug in everything. What I dont get is that everything was running fine and then this error. Would the Via 4 in 1 drivers be at the MSI website??

IS the K7 master a VIA chipset? I didnt think it was? Well, I a Geforce2 Pro card, Turtle Beach sound card, Plector 16x burner, toshiba DVD-ROM, IBM 40gig HD..That is about it really, I havent even hooked up anything fun..I have been just trying to get the system going. Is it a possibility that a IDE cable is loose?

My bad, again... The K7 Master utilizes the AMD 760 chipset. (I should have read your post more carefully. I saw the AMD 1.33 and the K7. Not the Master part.)

Yes, it is possible that an IDE cable is loose, but if it were the cable to your IBM HD, I would have expected other problems as well. The fact that you mentioned that you had installed a few programs before the reboot when you began receiving the page fault makes me suspicious. As I said, I'm not familiar with any of the packages you installed so I cannot comment on that with any confidence. Did any of them have to do with your Turtle Beach? Is that the Santa Cruz, BTW?

Do you know how to do a system repair in Win2K? After re-seating all of your cards and cables, you may want to try that.

Yes, It is the turtle beach. The programs did not deal with any of the hardware. One was a grphics app and the other was like a napster. I tried the windows recovery utility but to no avail. I hope it is just the software and not any of my new hardware that is screwy. I will reseat everything inside and then probably reinstall the operating system.

Reinstalling the OS may be a good path to take.

Sounds like a nice system you've put together, though.

Good luck!

when reinstalling windows it's probably best to restart each time after installing a piece of hardware; although it takes forever you'll be able to pinpoint what causes the problem next time it happens.

Well, I reinstalled win2000 and everything seems to be fine. As I reinstall software, I will be careful and restart after every install. Thanks for all the advice. At least I am glad that it isnt a hardware problem.
