cant start computer without clearing CMOS

stemmed from this thread

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=27&threadid=1667563&enterthread=y

when i turn on my computer, everything powers on But i cant get anything on the screen or boot. when i clear CMOS (AND LEAVE THE JUMPER IN THE CLEARED STATE), i can boot

when i shut down and restart, same thing. power but no boot, i then have to move the jumper to the original position

in the manner, i have to change the jumper settings for the CMOS everytime i boot

any ideas?

It would appear the tuner card is incompatible with the DFI BIOS chip and corrupted it
So, do not use PCI tuner card and reflash bios, to a dif version first I would guess would be better.
The other poster said when he took out his card the system was fine, so its not a driver/XP issue.
If you do a bad or non accepted flash, you know its the chip
A the very least, a new chip from DFI for ~$10 might be the easiest way to check things out

Edit: Try failsafe defaults option in bios first, before the above

You don't happen to have a linksys nic card installed do you? Just in case that thing was causint he same problem for me forever.. after 3 power supplies I figured out it was that.. just all of a sudden happened.. had to reset a buncha times to get it to POST

Do you have another box you could download the BIOS file from? Just put the bios flash utility and file onto a floppy and boot using a Win98 boot up disk. From there just flash the BIOS and see if that helps any.
