There is this guy at work who is constantly clearing his throat. It sounds like he is barfing up a lung. He's been doing it for years but all of a sudden it is bothering the heck out of me. He's around 60 or so.

Even when I'm on the phone people ask if the guy is OK who is making that noise! It almost sounds demonic when he goes into the low-grade grunts until he bursts out in this loud, cough or whatever.


Mind you, I am also the guy whose Boss farts at will.

I suggest that you start to learn to birp on command and answer their calls with a birp. Play some music and try and see if you all can cough, fart, and birp, all to the music.

To explain a birp is sort of a higher pitched burp, sort of like a chirp. A BURP, is what happens after you chug a beer. Birps are usually done on purpose by swallowing air.

Sometimes coughs just WONT go away...
I had a cough that lasted for almost 6 months... and if you think the people around you are annoyed... *I* was annoyed... all that coughing takes a toll on your voice and throat. Every doctor I went to said there was really nothing they could do... it had to 'cure itself' as some persistent coughs tend to do.

There's a guy in our group who is constantly doing that sinus snorting /sniffle thing. It kind of sounds like grunting. A bunch of us have been working together for about 10 years, and about two years ago one of the co-workers asked me if Bob's snorting drove me crazy like it did to her. I truly had never noticed it before.

But ever since she TOLD ME ABOUT IT, I hear it all the time! My brain sets aside 5% of its processing power to monitor for the snort in the background just to make sure I don't miss it like I did for EIGHT FRICKING YEARS! AAAHHH! Please let me go back in time to before she mentioned it to me and life was peaceful again!

I know exactly what you mean as well. There is this guy in my department who is always clearing his throat. It's the nastiest sh!t.
He does it constantly I don't understand. Just makes me want to blow chunks all over my keyboard. On top of that the guy smells. I'd say he's kickin the funk about 5 days week. As far as the farting thing goes, I think it's an age thing. About 60% of the people that work here are over their 50's, and they just don't care. They will just be talking to you and just let one loose, and act like nothing even happend. I can't even talk about it, I getting so pissed.
Oh god I can't wait til I get my degree, so I can get the hell out of here. All I have to say is thank god for air freshners and the headphone jack in my computer.

There's a woman here at work who wheezes very loudly. It sounds like she's trying to breath through a straw. It gets louder and louder, and then finally she pulls away from her desk and proclaims that it's time for a smoke break.

Maybe you can ask him if he's okay and if he is seeing doctors, and then he'll realize it's bothering others and maybe see a doctor?

I guess there is no compassion here for anyone. Maybe the guy has been a smoker his whole life and probably has emphezema or something like that. Who knows, I mean he is over 60, cut the guy a break! There are worse things that people deal with at work! Be thankful you just have to deal with a guy that coughs. Save your complaints for something substantial.

Not a smoker. Just a phlegm guy. He can hold conversations without once doing this so it is a disgusting habit. I have tremendous compassion for people but when its in your ear day after day, year after year it gets annoying. I don't think it is unreasonable as others feel the same.
