i cant shut down my messenger 4.5 if the OE 6.0 is on.. it says that some program ie the OE depends on it and it wont close it.

never happend in the old versions.

is this problem happening with everyone... and is there a way to get around this issue.

Thanks beforehand

Have you tried right clicking on the IM icon in they tray? If you exit IM before opening OE, it presents no problem . . . and OE could care less. It does not require it to even be installoed.

you can also go to tool>options and uncheck "automatically log on to Windows IM"

ppl the problem is that I need to have OE open most of the time and the messenger on a few occaisions coz i need mails more importantly than IM.

This isnt an auto log on issue ..

even if i load the IM separately than OE. it still wont shut down if OE is on.

I just was wondering why this is happeneing .. is it happenieng to all the ppl ... i mean it really is silly to have it in the system tray when not using it. so i want to shut it down but for the OE to stay ON.

Is this happening to evreryone or am i the only unlicky one .. but it feels i wierd as it happens both at wok(win2k) and home (win xp)

thanks beforehand

Welcome to .NET

When I had XP I had to take it out of my systray and load it manually for when I needed to use it. When you load XP and you have a .NET account (diff from passport) XP automatically log's you in to .NET and doesn't tell you and since your are already logged-in, and you have msn in the systray, and since your looged into .NET msn get's logged in automatically. Another thing MS forgot to tell you.

The future of .NET is gona open up a whole new can of woopass.

===
Here's the future of .NET for example.

1) In the future, software you purchase will require you to have a .NET account, where it will check and see if all of your software has been properly activated. In other words, not pirated.

2) If you buy software that requires a .NET activation, your OS must also be properly activated through .NET first. (not pirated)

3) If your OS is properly activated, you will not be able to install .NET capable software without properly activating it. (pirated software)

4) If you install .NET capable software that has not been 'properly' activated through .NET, it will give you a status of 'NOT LOGGED-IN' or 'ACCOUNT DISABLED' for example.

5) If you log-in to .NET it will check to see if all of your .NET required software is activated and if so you will get a status of 'ACTIVATED' or 'LOGGED-IN'

6) Websites you visit for like news, weather, sports, maybe even anandtech will require an 'ACTIVATED' .NET account, since adds they carry will require .NET activation.

7) .NET activated adds will pay more. and will be supported throughout the software and hardware industry.

8) If your account status is disabled, you will not be given permission to visit certain websites, shopping or online banking ect.

In the very near future, they can give the software away, you can steel it, pirate it, it won't matter. If you don't have a .NET activated account, the Internet will be very small.

Like I said, welcome to .NET

i have the same problem with MSN ISP. it loads the MSN messenger and wont allow me to shut it down.

the work-around-scheme is to shutdown the MSN messenger before MSN loads.
