Cant share files over the network

Runnin winxp pro...

I shared my I partition with my roommates where I have my media, tv shows etc. My roommates can view the folders in teh media drive, but they cant open the folder. They are told, access denied. The partition is not made into a private folder, but I do have my guest account disabled. What else could I be doing wrong? file and print sharing is enabled in my network settings......

we are on the same workgroup... no domain
 
folder permissions set to allow reading of the files?
that was my prob on a 2kpro lan the other day, i forget to set folder permissions to allow users to read or read/write

you cant set folder permissions in XP when you arent connected to a domain....

yes you can, it's just not enabled by default

go to control panel, then folder options, view tab, scroll all the way to the bottom and uncheck "Use simple file sharing"

now when you right click the shared folder, you have a security tab
