I enter BIOS info using info from ABIT KT7A FAQ site, Wicked Cases and others but get a black screen when I Save and Exit. I clear the CMOS with the jumper and try again. Tried both 1400 settings. Same result. Have seen message "checksum error".

New parts:
Antec case w/ 300w PS
AMD 1400 T-Bird CPU
Abit KT7A mobo
512 Crucial ram (ONE)
MSI 64MB AGP GeForce 2 400MX video
IBM 60GXP 40GB 7200RPM hard drive
Creative Labs 612 sound card and speakers (cheapo)
3 1/4 Floppy
DVD
CD-RW
Samsung 753DF monitor

Any thoughts? Will appreciate any help. Techless

If I recall right checksum means bad bios, how long have you had this mobo? I think it may be the ram as well, but if not, it may be that the cmos battery isn't holding a charge causing the bios to become corrupted, try another?

DaiShan-MOBO is 1 month old and is working ok.
minendo-RAM is new too but NG! I borrowed a stick from my store bought PC and the home built loaded the BIOS info into CMOS just fine.

New problem; tab on circuit board under floppy was not broken out for tab on cable, so I installed the cable upside down and pushed a pin in with the blank socket on the cable plug. Found that out when I couldn't boot startup disc to format HD. Will fix that tomorrow, gotta sleep now.

Thanks loads for the help. Let me know if you have any problems with your lawn mowers.

Remove every add-on card. Run with only VIDEO/ RAM/ HDD/ CDROM. And unplug the Floppy Drive if you're not using a boot floppy(Don't know why but some floppy's make my rigs go crazy).

Be sure you are running the latest bios. And those 1.4giggers need the best cooling in the world!

TIP: just to be sure it's not the 1.4GHz processor. Try swapping it with a lower speed CPU, or underclock your current processor to 1.1GHz via lowering the multiplier if you have an unlocked CPU.

I have the same motherboard. And my friend also had problems with his 1.4ghz rig.
