Hey guys this past week I have been having a very strange issue with my computer. It boots up extremely slowly and runs incredibly slow once it has finally booted up. I mainly use this computer for gaming and at the beginning of the week when in the middle of gaming I would hear a click from my computer, I thought I traced it to the HD, but im not sure. However that click noise has gone away, just putting it out there incase it helps. When this click would occur I would get lagged out of my game for about 10 seconds, it would clear up, then 5 seconds later another click and i'd be locked up again. So I have run every virus scan, spyware scan and adaware scan I have found and they all come up clean. I have also run numerous disk checks and disk defragmentations, none of this has helped my situation. I have heard that this might be a mobo going bad, but i'd hate to replace it since i only bought it about 8 months ago. If anybody can offer any advice or assistance I would be extremely grateful TY.

While I'm not certain this is the case, it seems to me that the your lagging problem sounds like a spyware issue. I know your spyware and antivirus software are coming back clean, but I would anxious to see what a clean install of your OS would do. If you can manage to re-install your OS, I would go that route. I had a brand new laptop that started taking forever to boot, and once it booted up it took forever for the actual programs to load and the computer to get to a point where I could actually use it. Come to find out, it was a spyware issue associated with a virus that wasn't showing up when I would do system scans. Reformatting is something to keep in mind..

Yeah, I suppose I could try that out. Since we're talking about it, how would I go about being able to access my music and other files once i've re-installed Windows. I know when i've done that in the past, all of my files have been there, I just couldnt figure out how to access all of them. Does anybody know of a quick way? I believe my dad has done it before, but he even doesn't remember.

Well here is the deal; if you do you a true "format," your music files would be erased unless you have your disk partitioned and those files are located on the portion of the disk that is not formatted. If you don't do a true format and just re-install your OS, you're really not fixing anything. I suggest that you back-up all needed files and do a complete fresh reformat.

I would run some benchmark programs and see exactly where you are lagging--the click freaks me out and makes me doubt malware---could your hard drive be going into plo mode?
And I am assuming you are checking hardware in device manager---and also for any forced hardware. A look at the bios and cmos battery may be in order also. I also ask if the game lagging only occurs while connected to the internet?

But I would add metest86, cpu-z, everest 2.2, and pc wizard as free programs and see what does not look right. Priests, exorsists, and garlic may be my next suggestion.
