Can't seem to display Java applets...

For some reason, I have found myself unable to display Java applets - I just get the annoying gray box. I'm using Win2k and IE 5.5. I'm a relatively new IE convert and am unsure where to find the Javascript on/off setting. Any ideas why this is happening?

Not sure about Win2000 but it's under the advanced tab in Internet options on the tools button in IE 5.00. hope this helps. Did you try the help on the start bar?

Look under Tools > Internet Options... > Advanced > VM (very bottom, or close to it). Make sure "Java console enabled" is checked - you'll need to close and reopen IE to get it working. Installing the "Java Virtual Machine (VM)" is a separate option on its own in Internet Explorer Setup, by the way. You may be prompted to supply the location of the IE setup files for Java to install.

Since we are at it, how about someone confirming that "active scripting" is really what controls javascript in IE?

Also, does it control anything else? Meaning, was the only reason MS called it Active Scripting to confuse us or does it do anything else besides javascripting?

Thanks
WW

Grr..this is getting frustrating. The "Java console enabled" was not checked, so I checked it, restarted IE and tried again. Same deal. Rebooted and tried again. Same deal. I booted into win98 and everything worked fine. I don't get it...

On this page (http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks), I noticed that when I mouseover where the applet should be, I get an error in the status bar. Something about an UnsatisfiedLinkError. I am able to successfully open this same page in Win98 and NT4 (at work). Doesn't make sense.

Any other thoughts?

Okay, more annoyances. I just installed Netscape and can display applets no problem in Netscape. *sigh*
