the only file formats i can save as is *bmp (monocrhome, 256 colors, 16 bit, 32 bit)..

anyone know how i can make it so i can save pics as jpg's or gif's in MS paint?

thanks

btw, im on Windows ME

Yes, but it seems to be related to Office. On a fresh Windows installation I've never seen jpg as an option for saving a file, but after doing a full install of Office it's there.

Apparently it adds some functionality?

I dunno.

Also is a function of the Operating System too. I belive Win98SE, ME, 2K, and XP have that option...all earlier ones do not have it as a default. At least in my experience.

At home I normally use an ancient version of Corel PhotoPaint. (Version 7). I got it back when I was in school for less than $100 for the entire Corel Draw package (Draw, Paint, & Dream), & it's served me well.

Much cheaper than PhotoShop, you can pick up CD 10 for <$100 on ebay.

if you don't need to do that much editing, in my earlier days i would just use microsoft photo editor to save into gif or jpeg.

the main reason i wanna use ms paint is for when i take screen shots of my screen, pushing print screen, then i open up ms paint and paste it in there then save as jpg, rather not use photoshop or any other big programs like that cuz they need to load up and everything

MS Paint gif's and jpg's look like crap anyways. Irfanview is a really good freeware picture viewer that allows you to do basic croppy etc. It's sort of like ACDSee.

Under folder options and file types in Explorer

reset your file association so it opens with Irfanview 😉

chau, it sounds like you'd be best served with ms photo editor. it comes with office so you don't need to install anything, and it loads pretty fast since it doesn't do much other than a few simple editing things.
