I'm having an issue trying to save a Word 2010 document.
I am copying about 100 pages of content from one document to another. Once I've pasted the content into the document, I cannot save it.
When I click Save, the progress bar shows it's saving, then the dialogue box pops up and asks me to give it a name. Whether I leave it with the same name or change it, or even change to different folder locations, as soon as I hit Save on the dialogue box, it closes for a second, then pops back up again.

I know it isn't permissions because I can open the document, change some text, and save it without any issues. The problem only comes up after I paste the content from the other document into it, then try to save.

So what could be in that content I'm pasting that would cause it to be unable to save?

Try saving in another format, closing Word, opening your newly saved file, and saving in the format you want.

Try saving in another format, closing Word, opening your newly saved file, and saving in the format you want.

It's a .docx file with lots of pictures and formatting.
What format should I try to maintain everything as well as possible?
.doc? or something else?

If that doesn't work, I guess the next step is to try copying and pasting small pieces of the content and see if there is something in particular that is causing the problem.

Maybe something that was pasted is unrecognizable or corrupted. Try selecting and saving in different ways. Office and windows uses a clipboard. Maybe too much was on the clipboard. Are you selecting it by using the menu or the mouse? You should have all the file types on your computer for all the pasted items in the doucment. My thought is what word cant recognize it cant copy.

I'm no word expert. How come you cant just open it and use save as and save the entire document under a different name making 2 documents.

You could try the old trick and tell word to display all the formatting and look at everything there.

I have saved a lot more text than that but it was just text.

I was just thinking about the possibility of when you paste something it might be resizing way out of range of the document or something like that.

PDF won't work. I still need to make modifications.
Basically, I have two documents and I need to merge then, then make a bunch of edits.
I had tried saving it with a different name and that didn't work.

What I eventually did was instead of copying content from document 1 into document 2, I just did it the opposite way and copied the content from document 2 into document 1. That worked fine and I had no problems.

So I still don't know what the issue was, but it's irrelevant now.
