Can't run OpenGL games w. XP & Ti 4200

Seems as if OpenGL is not installed on my system.

When I try to run MOHAA the consol says "Glimp_Init () - OPENGL Vendor string is NULL".

I have updated to 40.72 from 40.71, but with no luck.

Running Win XP Pro SP1 with an Inno3D Geforce 4 Ti 4200.

Appreciate any suggestions.

The generic driver in XP has no OpenGL support!

You say you have upgraded to det 40.xx. Have you made sure they have installed correctly? A virus program running on backround may corrupt the installation. Also, You should allways uninstall previous drivers, and set your card to "Standard VGA Adapter", restart, and only then install new drivers... So pls try again!

Thanks for the answer, but the problem persists.

If I check Driver File Details, all files but the help files are ov version 6.13.10.4072.
However, I wasn't able to stop the OS from automatically installing the default drivers for my card.
This is how I did:
Control panel - add/remove programs - remove Nvidia yaddayadda drivers.
The computer asks me to reboot. Ater the system is up again, the OS automatically installs the drivers for my Ti 4200 card (I think it's around 30.82 or something like that).

What should I do to prevent the OS from autoinstalling my card?

Ok try this it should work,Install the 40.72 drivers and reboot(don`t worry about removing the 30.82 drivers for now) than after reboot install the patch fix ,after that just reboot again and you should be fine.

mem - should I be able to run OpenGL-based games afterwards?
I did as you wrote, but I still get the same error.

This really sucks. It cannot be the case that one has to run through all this hazzle just to play OpenGL-based games. 🙁

Have you tried running other OpenGL games? Btw read this Link here ,another guy has the same problem as you,I would first try running other OpenGL games and see if they work or not, that way you `ll know if it`s game or driver problem.

btw
Q: GLimp_Init() - OPENGL Vendor string is NULL .
ANSWER

No 3d accelerator card. Make sure your video card is 3d accelerated.
Open GL is not installed properly. Go to www.opengl.com and reinstall open gl.
Video card is onboard in addition to a 3d card. If still receiving this error message after doing the above, you will need to disable the video card on the mother board. Contact the motherboard manufactuer/manual for how to do this.

So sounds like your OpenGL drivers are corrupted but you won`t know unless you try some different games in OpenGL. More info here .

for open GL you need to be using 16 or 32 bit desktop colour.
OGL will not work with 24 bit colour.
check your settings!
also run>dxdiag & see if your AGP acceleration is enabled.

Haven't got the option to use 24 bit colour.

Dxdiag reports that AGP Texture Acceleration is enabled.

Upgraded to Detonator 41.03 but with no result.

I also downloaded a utility called gl-direct 3.0.0, and that lets me run the game, but with graphical errors.

I think the problem could be solved if only I could choose to install my card as a Standard VGA, but I can't seem to do that - stupid plug'n'play

I am now able to run the game, but I had to downgrade to detonator 29.42

Thought that perhaps it would work to upgrade from 29.42 to 40.71, but alas, no.

Well, guess I'm stuck with 29.42 henceforth. At least until I've completed the game.

Thanks for your engagement, everybody

Thanks everybody, but perhaps especially mem, for solving my problem!

It turned out that after installing Matlab, OpenGL is screwed up. Had to turn off two Matlab related processes to make OpenGL work. After having done that it works fine with 40.72!
