can't read burned cd's

A friend has been burning cd's, and he can only read them on the machine that burned them, either in the cd burner, or the cd reader. But only on that machine. He can't read them on his other PC's cd player. Any thoughts?

What types of cd is he burning? (Data, audio, mixed-mode, cd-extra) What type of media is he using? (Brand...cdr...cdrw) What drive did he use to make the cd and what drive was he using as the reader? A little more information and maybe we can find out what's going on.

If he's creating them as a data CD, and then copying data to the media, he would then have to format it to be read by other devices. I have an HP 7500e, and if you eject the CD without formatting it first, you then can only read it in that particular burner (not even in any other HP burner)

Now, if he's not creating them as a data CD, then... I would need more information. ;-)

By "Data Cd," I think you're referring to packet writing such as DirectCD where you must format the cd first before drag-n-dropping files onto the cd.

He is doing Packet writting on his CD's. where it won't be recognised on other CD players, tell him not to format the disk if you want it to be read on other Computers.
You do not have to format a Cd to burn a CD.
My Majic spin 56xCD Rom reads packet writting, I don't know if any other CD Roms will do this as it costs more to implement the technology.
