Can't put volume in Taskbar

When I try to "Place volume icon in the taskbar" I get this error message:
"Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume Control program has not been installed. To install it, use Add/remove Programs in the Control Panel."

I can't find adding volume control anywhere. Can anybody help me?

Thank you very much.

I guess you might be in the wrong forum but I'd suggest trying to reinstall your sound card driver.

I've seen this problem before as well and I'm sure that uninstalling/deleting the device from the device manager and then reinstalling fixed it. (This was with a SB Audigy card.)

I've seen this before and have no idea why it happens.

Open c:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf in Notepad.

Change the line:
MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,HIDE,7

To:
MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,,7

(that is, remove HIDE from the line)

Save the file.

Go to add/remove programs, add/remove windows components, highlight accessories and utilities, click details, highlight multimedia, click details, install the volume control, bow to NogginBoink and chant "we're not worthy" repeatedly.

gtd2000,

I looked for a more appropriate forum for a sound question but didn't see one. That's why I chose the General Forum. Maybe you could let me know where I should've posted my question. I appreciate your response, I have a new Dell 9300 Inspiron & they tell me I have to reinstall the OS which I don't want to do.

Thanks again.

Nohelpinboink,

Wow, how many of your 4520 posts are as useless as this one? I guess I posted my question in the wrong forum. I'll be on my way to find a more helpful group of people. How dare I invade the space of your superior intellect.

You must be way under challenged to spend your time being such a smart ass.

(taps Il2sot's sarcasm meter... it seems to have experienced a failure)

Methinks NogginBoink was trying to be funny. Either way, since it's very hard to tell exactly what someone's intentions are in written words online, it is best not to assume the worst, if for your own mental health and stress level. With that said, did you even try to implement his advice, or did you just ignore everything because you got offended at what he said at the end of his post? FWIW, I could find many posts on this forum more "worthless" than his, probably including this one.

OOOPs, My bad. I am pond scum and you are correct.

I beg your forgiveness Sir NogginBoink. (bow,bow) my chanting may be inaudible but my family can attest...!

Thank you! I appreciate your help.

You're welcome!

And my apologies for being an ass. I was feeling particularly cocky for knowing the answer to that one.
