Hello Anybody!

I recorded some video tapes to my hard drive using my 5 year old Win98 PC with an ATI All in Wonder card. The ATI software saved the video as avi files that work on the old machine just fine.

Now I have copied the files to my newer XP PC and when I try to run them with Windows Media Player, the player says it is looking for codecs online but cannot find any to download, then it starts playing only the audio.

I have also tried Apple QuickTime with the same results, can't find proper codecs.
What next?

Try installing the software from the TV-Wonder card. It's possible it's a proprietary ATI codec.

search for a program named gspot and see if it can tell you what codec is needed.
