Can't play HL: Source SOLVED

:| Since I have been through HL2 twice, I decided to wax nostolgic and play HL: Source. Imagine my shock when it will not even start. I get the intro screen, but there is a thin white X across the entire screen. I can bring up the option dialog, but most of the options are missing. I can click the start new game button, but nothing happens. I decided to reload from Steam to try and fix it. Anyone else seen this problem?

Let the Steam flame-fest begin...
