I posted this in general hardware cause I dont really know where to put it, but here is my problem.

I was able to play BF2 and now I cant. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron with 1gb Ram, x1400 256mb and a T5500@1.66. I ran the EA Info and it said I need to have a 1.7. is there anyway around this? I dont understand how I was able to play and now I cant.

Any help would be great, or just some ideas. Thanks.

For crashing problems and EA games a friend would set the "affinity" on the BF2.exe process to a single process (task manager -> right click on process -> set affinity). The only other suggestion i would have with EA games crashing is to search for 'crash to desktop' on the ea game forums and try one of the 50 different random solutions that have worked for people. It does seem like EA is giving you the runaround if it worked before and the machine seems powerful enough.

I tried Matt, but the exe doesnt stay up long enough for me to change it. anyway to change the setting without trying to run the program? It crashes to desktop on trying to open the exe.

I run it fine on my 1.66ghz Core Duo. Does the error message appear saying that you need a 1.7 or does only the tool tell you that?

You probably need a 1.7 Ghz P4. 1.6 Ghz C2D is going to be like three times faster. Ignore that....the problem is something else.

I dont think so ... he would double click and immediate open up task manager to assign the CPU. His wasnt on startup though. Continuing to grab at straws ... You have probable found this link, but you could try their suggestions (even though they talk about the splash screen already displaying)

http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/ph...c2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9Y3Jhc2ggdG8gZGVza3RvcA**&p_li=&p_topview=1

Another suggestion I read is to change your desktop resolution to 1024x768 before starting the game.

Let me know if this helps ...

i tried that just now, and it didnt work. The default is at 800x600, so i can try to change it to desktop settings.
