Grr... I bought it from Newegg and when I overclock it to 166Mhz, it screws up my monitor - it stars "raining" on my monitor horizontally and if I don't shut down right away, soon I can't see anything. This my second Radeon LE from Newegg and my first card was doing the same. How come the rest of you gets 166 easily and I can't? Am I doing anything wrong or do I just have REALLY bad luck getting the Radeon from Newegg? Any help is appreciated.

Try setting the memory speed and latency on medium if your tweaker isn't already set that way.

Even at 200/200, I don't get what you are getting, although it does lock up. It works great in the 190's.

I'd be surprised if you don't get past 166.

If you're using radontweaker 4.x-5.0, use med/med and hit close on the left, not ok on the right when you exit. There is no reason why 6ns samsung ddr won't hit 166.

OK, thanks for the help, it works fine now on medium/medium setting. Looks like memory timing was the culprit. Before I tried it with fast timing and the "rain" appeared. Also tried overclocking with PowerStrip and had the same problem. But, I just finished playing 30 minutes of UT and towards the end, I had artifacts on the screen at 148/148. I guess that's not normal, huh?

Witch Powerstrip program did you try ? I've found the Beta version works well for me.2 Le's & not one good overclocker, that does'nt sound right.

I recently bought an LE from Newegg too. The only tweaker that worked the way it was supposed to was Radeon Tweaker. I downloaded it from Rage3d. Raid-on gave me the rain you described. If you havn't tried it yet, its worth a shot.

A second vote for RadseonTweaker. It worked well for me (with medium memory timings). Overclocked mine up to 183/183 now.

Hmm, mine is clocked at 183/183 as well right now. Weird, why didn't powerstrip work for me? I guess it's the memory timing. Anyway, I'm happy now and thanks to you I'm not looking for a new card anymore :) You gotta love these forums.

Hi dere.

Kinda newbie question about OCing - I play lots with my puter, but I've never tried OCing. Just installed a Radeon LE ($129CDN, whoohoo!) so I'll surely ramp it up to at least 166/166. Question, though:

What is the risk of damaging components while OCing? For the Radeon, it sounds like a no-brainer, but I've also been thinking of putting a PIII-800/133 on my P2B motherboard, which means OCing my PC100 RAM to 133FSB. If I do it and it doesn't work, am I going to fry everything, or will it just lock up? I'm happy to take a minor risk, but if there's a good chance of making an expensive mess, I'll wait 'til I've got the juice to upgrade everything. Gotta say, I can still do a lot with my PII-400, 200M RAM and especially with the new (unclocked so far) Radeon...

Thanks y'all!

Hmm... I just thought of a follow up question: My P2B only supports 2X AGP - how much am I losing of my Radeon's performance because of that? If it's a lot, then I won't bother upgrading the CPU anyhow, but get a new MB, RAM and CPU when I can afford it...

Thanks all!

For the P2B, it depends on the revision, but most of the time it should work, but you will need to buy a voltage jumpered slocket. The P2B may or may not work with the standard 1.7ish voltages of those chips, but almost invariably works with 1.8 V. Either way, you'll still have to flash to BIOS to the latest revision (1012).

What I would suggest is buying a PIII 700E (FSB 100) and overclock it to say 784 or maybe a PIII 800E (FSB 100) and overclock it to 896. I would not attempt running PC-100 at 133. It may work, but I wouldn't trust it, unless it's good name brand PC-125 stuff, running at CAS 3-3-3.

At 133 MHz though you probably wouldn't fry anything, except possibly the Radeon.

Thanks!

I'll have to go out looking for a 100FSB P3 - it's a bit of a pain to do mail order from US stores across the border, and none of the Canadian online stores have any in stock. If I can't find one, then I may as well wait until I can afford to get a new MB, Athlon and RAM.

Much obliged!
