I just got these 2x1GB sticks of PC3200, and they wont run at any speed other than DDR400 - 200mhz. They wont run below that or above that. I have an opteron 170 @ 2.5ghz, but with this memory it wont even run at 2.1ghz, the motherboards safe mode always kicks in and sends it back to stock speeds. It runs the memory at 2-4-9-4 i think. My previous memory could run at 3-3-7-3. I dont know which is better or what that means but this new stuff dosent wanna change speed at all. It wont run at DDR333 or DDR266 or as close to DDR333 as i can get with a 250FSB overclock, why wont it change speed at all??

I know you get what you par for but surely it can run *slower* than it was intended for no??

Mobo = EPOX 9NPA+ SLI
Memory = generic PC3200

So whats the deal? Just crap memory? Nothing i can do about this? This mobo has lot of memory timing options.

uh...relax the timings to 3-4-4-8, throw in a DDR333 mem divider and put the HTT to 240.

Ok, it still wouldnt boot, i lowered the HTT to 205 and it booted, yay a 50mhz overclock.

Any change in the timings and it seems to screw it up.

I dont know, but could it be the fact that ive got the good memory in the first two slots? Or does the mobo automatically detect the slowest of the 4 dimms and run all dimms at the slowest speeds? I dont think it does, it used to use CL 3.0 but now itll default to CL 2.5, could it be somthing to do with this?? Im gonna try swapping the good dimms to the other two slots.

What does CPU-Z say the SPD timings are?

Ok well my theory about switching the dimms around was garbage it didnt work or do anything at all. Ive got ONLY the 2x1gb sticks in just now.

CPU-Z says 2.5-4-4-9
Dual channel
Also these ram sticks came rated for CL 3.0 but theyre running at 2.5 now without an overclock of the FSB.

Why the heck wont it boot with my overclock?? This really puzzles me, what am i missing? What could the 2x512mb PC3200 sticks do that these ones cant??

Try OC with just the 1 gb stick.
MB have problems sometimes when you have 2 sticks in there.

Just tried that there.

Ive come to a conclusion, it dosent matter what the hell i do to any setting or run it with the worst timings possible, if i change the FSB more than 5mhz it will not boot. The reason for this? Well its probably because i skimped and bought this from ebay, lots of ram on there is high density trash that apparently is not industry standard or somthing. I think i got that, itll run, but not out of spec. If the mobo supports PC 3200 itll run at that, nothing else, if it only supports PC 2700 itll run at that but nothing else.

Screw it, ima ebay these sticks and get new ones.

It has little to do with an OC. As I asked before, what are the SPD settings that you find in CPU-Z for all four sticks?

Amd memory controllers will not run 4 sticks anf faster than DDR333, 2T'

I would suggest using the pair of memory that has the fastest speed.

Wait do you have four sticks of memory in or two? Try using the 2x1gig sticks only and go from there. Play around with the slots. AMD procs tend to not overclock well at all when there are more than two memory modules in the system.

EDIT: It seems Billb2 said the same thing, lol. Oh well.
